Crispin Spaeth Dance Group hits the stage
Crispin Spaeth Dance Group hits the stage with new ‘FADE: dis/appearances’
Consolidated Works will presents as part of its Vs. Consolidation Series “FADE: dis/appearances,” the world premiere of a new work of contemporary dance by Crispin Spaeth Dance Group.

“FADE: dis/appearances” is a virtuoso exploration of the moment vision falters: when light gives way to dark, larger forces operate unseen, and solid ground becomes as treacherous and fragile as a sheet of ice. Featuring an all-star cast of collaborators and the powerful vision of CSDG, FADE is a vibrant new work that pushes at the defining edges of contemporary dance.

FADE will be performed March 18-April 2, Friday and Saturday nights, at 8:00 p.m. for three weeks, at Consolidated Works, 500 Boren Ave. N.

FADE features an all-star cast of collaborators, including award-winning set designer Etta Lilienthal, composer Yann Novak, lighting designer Jon Harmon, costume designers Rigmor Vohra and Kristina Olsen, and choreography by Crispin Spaeth and her cast of stunning dancers, the cream of Seattle’s emerging dance talent: Heather Budd, Yuki Enomoto, Kathy Lawson, Chay Norton, and Julia Skloot.

Tickets are $15 ($13 for ConWorks members), available in advance through www.ticketwindowonline.com or by calling (206) 325-6500.

A discussion facilitated by Kara O’Toole, co-director of Seattle’s new dance organization Kick, will follow the Saturday March 26 performance.

On opening night, March 18, Casey Keeler, curator of Consolidated Works’ current visual art exhibit “Ergonomicon” will be on hand to discuss the show. “Ergonomicon” will have extended hours on Friday nights throughout the run of the show.

The Consolidated Works ConBar will be open before and after each show.

CSDG’s choreography wrestles with the familiar, transformed by and for the specialized environment of the stage. Spaeth and her highly tuned ensemble tap into contemporary consciousness to reveal our humanity at its most candid. Whether reaching for a moment of tenderness or enjoying the pleasures of simple greed, Spaeth’s dances bring out the haughty, the goofy, and the elegant in people. Her work encompasses ego-blasting humor, truth–revealing tenderness, bare-bones theatrics, and always the unfettered, unapologetic dancing for which CSDG has been celebrated in Seattle and beyond for over a decade.

Since CSDG’s first performances in 1993, the company has distinguished itself as one of the Pacific Northwest’s most innovative and evocative dance ensembles. CSDG creates a new major work every two years, collaborating with a variety of local organizations and multi-disciplinary artists to present works of the highest artistic caliber. CSDG has been presented by On the Boards, Bumbershoot, Seattle’s Center on Contemporary Art, Oberlin College in Ohio, Vancouver, B.C.’s Dancing on the Edge Festival, and the International Theater Festival in Manta and Spondylus Festival in Quito, Ecuador, among others.
