Hilariously funny Robots
Hilariously funny Robots is even better watched on the huge IMAX screen

Robots

(animation)

Directed by Chris Wedge and Carlos Saldanha, with the voices of Ewan McGregor, Halle Berry, Robin Williams, Jim Broadbent, Terry Bradshaw, Mel Brooks, Amanda Bynes, Drew Carey, Jennifer Coolidge and many more! Now Playing at the Boeing IMAX Theatre inside the Pacific Science Center

Even though the waiting through a horrid experience of some twinkie DJ dissing a young boy, after he finally worked up the nerve to come up front to answer the “trivia questions,” (my friend and I dubbed her “Satana” and her sister “helpers” the “Satanettes,” after she cruelly told the little boy, “We were doing that, but we’re not doing it now,” and dismissed him like so much refuse), the film was worth that little irritation. In fact, Robots is such a gas that if you had to crawl on broken glass to see it, the film would still make it worthwhile.

Voiced by the considerable talents of Oscar winner Halle Berry (who does the voice of “Cappy,” a love interest for geeky, young “Rodney Copperbottom”), Ewan McGregor (Copperbottom), and Robin Williams (who makes some of the funniest jokes in the animated film by Disney Studios), Robots takes off from the start and keeps on going. And what a story it is, with young Rodney taking on the evil “Madame Gasket,” a villainess determined to upgrade a city of broken robots, whether they like it or not. She is intent on putting her rival, Mr. Bigweld (voiced by Mel Brooks), Rodney’s hero from childhood, out of business.

But, with the help of his new friends, a group of misfit robots (which reminded me of the misfit toys Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer encountered on The Island of Misfit Toys), Rodney not only saves the day, but he gets the girl too. And of course there are lots of misadventures and close calls along the way, as well as plenty of laughs, which everyone, young or old can enjoy. Myself, I found the whole thing a great joy to behold and laughed myself silly, as did my friend who accompanied me. Go by yourself, or take some young ones along, if you feel you have to “look cool” and can’t be seen enjoying a “cartoon” alone. Call IMAX Theatre for times and ticket prices.
