Moby announces Seattle in-store appearance and concert
Moby coming to Seattle’s University Village and Paramount Theatre

You heard it here first. Dance-pop artist Moby is on his way to Seattle. Twice. On Wednesday, March 30 the artist is scheduled for an in-store performance and CD/book signing at the Barnes & Noble in University Village. Time is set for 5:00-7:00 pm. Moby will introduce a few of his favorite tracks from a new album entitled Hotel, which comes out on March 22. After the brief performance, the techno maestro will sign copies of the just-released CD and his new lifestyle book called Teany Book.

Moby will return to Seattle on Wednesday, May 4 for a show at the Paramount Theatre. Tickets for that concert go on sale Saturday, March 26 (10:00 a.m.) at all Ticketmaster locations. The main floor section will be wide open, as it was for Scissor Sisters in January. Mezzanine and balcony seating is for all-ages. Tickets are priced at $30, plus applicable charges. I wish I could go to this show because it promises to be way cool, but I already made plans to attend the Snow Patrol concert at the Moore Theatre on the same night. My fellow music writer Richard Kennedy is a big Moby fan, so he’ll preview and review the show for you.

Moby, the Grammy-nominated dance wizard who gave us one of last decade’s most adventurous recordings Play, goes for a more organic sound on Hotel. It’s definitely stripped-down and less-produced than 2002’s soaring disc 18. I happen to like what I’ve heard from it, although Play stills gets the most love in my household. Stay glued to “The Music Lounge” for the possibility of a Moby ticket giveaway.

Kelly Osbourne might be partying on Capitol Hill
Kelly Osbourne scoping out Capitol Hill for CD-signing party

On occasion, I get a phone call from someone in the music biz wanting information on Seattle. I’ve recommended everything from restaurants and record shops to last-minute available hairstylists to cool hangout spots. This week I got a call from a man representing Kelly Osbourne, who was hunting for a busy nightclub in the Gay hood to host a CD-signing party with an appearance by the wild and whiny brat herself. I gave him the name of a small, very popular Gay club on Pine Street because it sounded as if they wanted something intimate. Three days later, they changed their mind. The record label now wants a larger venue. I guess they think Miss Osbourne has a huge fan base that would reshuffle their Friday night plans to see how much lipstick she can smother on her pouty lips. Because if you ever heard this girl sing, you’d realize why earplugs were invented. It wasn’t for aviational purposes, believe me.

Girl4Girl gets boyish at the Premiere
Girl4Girl presents "Boigirl" for area's party happening Lesbians

I’ve never partied in a room full of sweaty women. But I have a feeling it’s pretty hot. Even though I’m secure of my love for men, especially the ones with a shoe size bigger than 9, I think it’s really hot to see two women getting it on. Which is why I’ll be partying with my Lesbian sisters on Saturday, March 19 at The Premiere nightclub for an event called “Boigirl.” Presented by Girl4Girl, a local production company that offers exciting female-only events every third Saturday of each month, the theme this time is aimed at getting chicks to come dressed in jeans, tanks or tees, baseball caps and sneakers. Basically, come looking like a dude. A few tats would be nice too. “Boigirl” will be so guy-looking this Saturday night that I probably won’t be able to pull it off. Girl4Girl events are billed as “women only”, but men are welcome to attend if they’re accompanied by a gal pal, and they gotta pay extra. Cover charge is $10 for the ladies, $15 for the gents. The Premiere is located at 1700 First Ave. South, a block away from Starbucks corporate offices. Prizes and guest DJs are included in the fun.

American Idol boots off first finalist, 11 contestants remain
For some reason, I’m not into American Idol as much as I was last year. Maybe it’s because the male contestants have too much hair or no hair. Except for that cutie pie, Anthony Fedorov. I could seriously see myself underneath him. But the other men on the show are scary. Bo Bice, who could pass for Meatloaf’s son, looks great from the waist down. A buzz cut and a good shave would do wonders for him. Ditto for Anwar Robinson, who overdoes everything I’ve heard him sing. I’m not sure what to do about plus-size vocalist Scott Savol, but he sounds better than half of the finalists.

As for the girls, or as I refer to them the Idolettes, they drive me crazy. I don’t find any of them real, like Kelly Clarkson or Fantasia. And they sure as hell can’t sing like them either. Nadia Turner can bring it on, but she needs to tone down the sass and just be herself. Hard-ass judge Simon Cowell was the only panelist who had good words for Carrie Underwood, and I think it’s because he got a stiffy from watching her on stage. By the way, Paula Abdul is giving better, honest commentary this year. It’s about fucking time! Lindsey Cardinale was eliminated from the competition this week. Eleven contestants are still in. And lastly, I have to mention something about Ryan SeaCRUST. Great hair, great teeth, great ass, too metrosexual. C’mon Ryan, butch it up. Well, I’ll keep my eyes and ears on American Idol as the season continues. If I don’t fall asleep from boredom first.

Next week in The Music Lounge...Brendan Benson
Alternative pop-rocker Brendan Benson has a terrific new CD coming out on Tuesday, March 22, titled The Alternative to Love. It’s filled with well-crafted love songs and Beatlesque pop tunes. The Detroit resident, who plays nearly every instrument on the recording, took time out of his busy schedule to talk with the Seattle Gay News. Find out what the artist thinks about having a gay fan base, what’s been spinning in his personal iPOD lately and what 2005 has in store for him. Benson opens for Keane at the Paramount Theatre on May 9. Check back next week when the guy Jack White calls “my new favorite singer-songwriter” steps into “The Music Lounge.”
