Paramount Theatre - Sold Out

Last summer, my photographer and I underestimated I-5 traffic and wound up missing a chance to meet Keith Urban in-person right before he went on stage at the Skagit Valley Casino. The other bummer about that night was the crowd. It was very rural and not very Gay friendly. So I’m extremely happy that Urban is bringing this leg of his tour to the city. The recent CMA Male Vocalist of the Year winner will perform to a sold-out audience at the Paramount Theatre on Wednesday night.

Urban, born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, has taken the country music scene by storm. He got noticed in 1999 with his self-titled debut, but it was 2002’s Golden Road that really put him out there. It contained several big hits, including “Somebody Like You,” “Who Wouldn’t Wanna to Be Me” and “You’ll Think of Me.” Last year, Urban released his third effort Be Here to strong sales and a fan base that grew beyond leaps and bounds. Though it’s hard not to fancy his image, sun-streaked hair, cute face and a body that compliments a pair of jeans more than vice versa, what you get with Urban is an all-around great package. He’s an artist who looks good and sounds great. His albums display a sincere, gifted songwriter and skilled musician. That’s what earned him multiple Grammy nominations and the well-deserved CMA victory.

At the Paramount Theatre, expect Keith Urban to get the crowd going early on. He starts with at least three to four uptempo songs, then slows it down. The jeans and tee-shirt will be sprayed-on tight, the hair long and bouncy and teeth polished to perfection. He smiles a lot, plays his guitar wildly and keeps the party afloat from beginning to end. Simply stated, he puts on a hell of a show. Newcomer Katrina Elam is the opening act. For pre-concert cocktails, support the Gay bars nearby, R Place, Manray and The Eagle. For food, I recommend Capitol Hill’s Machiavelli Ristorante, Broadway Grill or Six Arms Pub, and Rock Salt on Lake Union is definitely worth noting.

Pre-concert CD recommendation: Be Here featuring “Days Go By,” “The Hard Way,” “Country Comfort” and “Nobody Drinks Alone.”
