Long ago in a time once forgotten there was peace among people. There had previously been ages of desperate survival for those creatures which evolved into human beings. Anthropoids who lived together in bands or clans only looked after the survival of those within their group. Each group defended itself against other groups in order to live. Cannibalism was sometimes practiced.
Slowly, the idea that there was something beyond themselves at work in the Universe, evolved. Anyone could bring death by taking a life. However, only females of each species could bring forth life into the world. Whatever created life and the universe was obviously female! If humans were to survive, their girl children and women must be protected so that they could bring life into the world, nurture, educate, and protect the young.
Males protected females and the young. The role of males in helping create life was only vaguely comprehended. The Creator was female, Goddess. Every child learns that their lives and well-being depend first and foremost upon their mothers. It is the nature of females to protect their young. Men endured danger hunting for food, protecting their group from predators and harm. Women, while protected, learned over time the secrets of that which would facilitate good health, healing, well being, a good life: agriculture, science and medicine including the uses of plants, herbs, and other natural remedies. The reality of man, the protector of women, children and the elderly, was sometimes violent. The path of women was usually peaceful, nurturing, providing the wisdom of survival.
Men and women were partners, each respected and honored for their role in preserving family, extended family, clan, tribe, settlement, village, town, culture, civilization. Women learned the basics and developed implements for science and agriculture. Men evolved hunting skills including making tools used for that purpose. Villages in warmer climates had no walls or fortifications. There were no weapons of war! People could travel between villages in love, peace, and friendship.
Trade and commerce were beneficial as they developed. Hospitality was extended to strangers, as each village knew that their people, when traveling, would be strangers in other lands, dependent upon the good will of others. Hospitality and networking for survival became a way of life. Goddess was the Great Mother, Creator of the Universe, her love and gifts were welcome, she was worshipped and respected. Her gifts of nature were carefully stewarded so that they were not compromised or abused.
The first Universal law was understood: Do No Harm! Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Spoken language evolved into written languages. Mathematics, science, astronomy, and art developed. Elder women, past their child-bearing physically strong active years, were responsible for providing education, wisdom and sound leadership for their people. The essence of life was love between all people
men and women, women and women, men and men. So long as human beings came together in love, peace, and friendship
All was well.
Until.
From the North, hordes of men swept down upon the defenseless Goddess worshippers in the name of greed and their bloody, male, God, mercilessly slaughtering defenseless innocents. Peaceful Goddess followers, who had no weapons or ideas of war, were doomed. The Earth, Gaia, then experienced eons of war in which people raised their hands against others and forgot that everything upon this planet, and in the Universe, is related, family, part of the circle of life, eternity, the Creator. Men set out to eradicate forever the Goddess ideas and heritage of peace. They called an abomination anything they didnt understand, believe, like, or understand, including the many forms of love, some foods, and even the Goddess.
Eons passed
.
Peaceful villages and ways of life were buried, forgotten
.until, eventually, archaeologists of a later age, began, literally, digging up history, seeking to understand how their world had come to be. When men interpreted what they found, within the framework of what their male-God-based religions told them to believe, they constructed an inconsistent story. But when both male and female archaeologists and anthropologists re-examined the evidence, they discerned a different truth from old and new artifacts. Some had the courage to apply science and reason, not dogma, to what they found. Truth began to emerge from a murky past for a troubled world in which men harmed one another, and the planet which had given them life.
Once, elder women of wisdom were responsible for the beginnings of civilization and human society. Even today, here in this country, elder womens knowledge and wisdom can be found, if you know where to look, and understand what youre seeing, hearing. Our democratic/republic is founded upon such teachings.
