Hedwig rocks the Capital Playhouse in Olympia
Hedwig and the Angry Inch Text by John Cameron Mitchell. Music and Lyrics by Stephen Trask.

Late night performances of Hedwig and The Angry Inch will happen onstage at the Capital Playhouse in Olympia (612 E. 4th Ave.) on March 25, 26, April 1, 2 at 11:00 p.m. This production brings together two New Yorkers – director Stephen Nachamie and performer Aaron Berk as Hedwig – for a dynamic staging of this hit rock-n-roll musical.

Hedwig and the Angry Inch tells the story of “internationally ignored song stylist” Hedwig Schmidt, a fourth-wall smashing East German rock ‘n’ roll goddess who also happens to be the victim of a botched sex-change operation, which has left her with just “an angry inch.” This outrageous and unexpectedly hilarious story is dazzlingly performed by Hedwig (née Hansel) in the form of a rock gig/stand-up comedy routine backed by the hard-rocking band “The Angry Inch.” Using songs and monologues, Hedwig tells her story… Luther, an American GI promises to take Hansel to the States on the condition that he switch his sex. Luther abandons newly named Hedwig in a Kansas trailer park where she turns to music and meets and falls for geeky Tommy Speck. Tommy steals her songs, and achieves rock star fame. Hedwig decides to demand redress and stalks Tommy’s world tour, performing in the T.G.I. Fridays that happen to be situated next door to his stadiums.

Aaron Berk made his debut on Syracuse Stage in 2004 as Hedwig. He has toured Europe extensively as Woof in Hair and Riff-Raff in the 25th Anniversary production of The Rocky Horror Show.

Also rounding out the cast are Kittra Wynn Coomer (Yitzhak) and Troy Fisher, Rick Jarvela, Mark Layton, and Douglas Narry as The Angry Inch band. Kittra Wynn Coomer is an audience favorite, most recently in our production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood! as Princess Puffer. Audiences will also remember her from Pump Boys & Dinettes. And, Capital Playhouse audiences will remember Stephen Nachamie’s directing and choreography in the 2002 smash hit Chicago.

This production runs through April 2. Regular performances are Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.

General ticket prices range from $22-$26 for adults and $16-$20 for students 16 and under and senior citizens 60 and over. Group rates are available for parties of 20 or more. For more information visit us on-line at www.capitalplayhouse.com or call (360) 943-2744.
