QArts, a program of the Seattle LGBT Community Center, will present “Cody’s Forest,” a new show featuring the work of Cody Blomberg opening April 1.

South Dakota native Cody Blomberg’s interest in art dates from age 15 when he became involved in theatre. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1997 with a degree in Theatre Design & Technology. His diverse set of artistic inspirations include The Bloomsbury Group, Vasily Kadinsky, David Hockney, Fay Jones, children’s books, and African American muralists.

Five years ago he founded Code 4 Blue Productions, a company that designs and installs both residential and commercial murals. He recently completed his 100th mural. Many adorn the walls of children’s rooms, which are his specialty. In addition to his murals, he continues to explore a visual language of his own through the oil medium, working at merging his childlike wonder and delight with his adult aesthetic.

“Cody’s Forest” is his first series of oil paintings, inspired by the renewing spirit of deep woods. The delightful flow of color and infinite changes of line and texture of the trees form the backdrop from which imagination emerges. Says Cody, “I like the simple theme of rows and rows of trees because, if you look deeply, you will see that anything can happen in the woods.”
