Second Stage Dance Theater
Broadway Performance Hall
March 25-April 2
Even with allergies attacking me like mad last weekend, I still managed to thoroughly enjoy the program of old and new dance pieces put on by one of my favorite dance groups, Second Stage Dance Theater. Their program, celebrating their five-and-a-half year birthday, gave regular fans of the older dance group, and new fans a chance to witness the talents of this unique and gifted group of women and their newest, male member, Steve Casteel.
Moving with the grace of gazelles, the dancers wove in and out of pieces like Four by Four in 4/4, Chords of Belonging and the dramatic Simply Roaring
though I shouldnt have to. And each piece gave the audience something new to love about this group, particularly how comfortable they were with their bodies and how effortless they made some of the more athletic dances look.
In short, it was a supremely gratifying and empowering experience to behold, and if you ever should have the chance, do see this marvelous group of dancers.
