Country heartthrob Dierks Bentley coming to The Showbox in July - tickets on sale now
Speaking of country music eye candy, Dierks Bentley has announced a Seattle concert date for this summer. The Phoenix native will make his first area headlining appearance on Thursday, July 21 at The Showbox. Yeehaw to that! Cute as can be and big in all the right places, Bentley landed well inside SGNs hot artists of 2004 list and What Was I Thinkin appeared in our year-end Top 25 Singles/Tracks list as well. On the rise, the singer-songwriter just wrapped up a tour with country giant George Strait and releases his sophomore album Modern Day Drifter on May 10. His self-titled debut was certified platinum, signifying one million copies sold.
If youre a Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney or Ty Herndon fan, then Dierks Bentley is right up your alley. Tickets are on sale now at www.ticketswest.com or at all Rudys Barbershops and Sonic Boom record stores, priced at $20. Bentleys hair suddenly got shaggy and he grew a frickin beard. But ask me if I care and Ill say no. His music is great, his face is sweet and that backside is juicier than a king size pack of Starburst. Bentley finished at #3 on CMTs (Country Music Television) Sexiest Men countdown, right behind Keith Urban and Tim McGraw. And to top it off, Bentleys publicist assures me that he is the friendliest guy on the planet who chills out in an RV during tour and recording studio breaks. But hes straight. Crap. Chesney, on the other hand, is anybodys guess.

Summer Nights concert series returns familiars, welcomes cool new acts
Familiar names and standout up and comers comprise this years lineup for the Summer Nights at South Lake Union concert series. Yes, you heard right. South Lake Union. The annual outdoor music festival, which features a diverse roster of established and rising artists throughout the summer months, announced its new location in December. Im not sure what the deal was, but I think it had something to do with the possibility that at any time the Pier is capable of floating off into Puget Sound and becoming one with Bainbridge Island.
Summer Nights kicks off with a doozie, a performance by rock diva Lucinda Williams on Friday, June 24. Thats a perfect way to start your Gay Pride weekend, by the way. Lyle Lovett returns for two shows on Saturday and Sunday, June 25 and 26. The country-pop crooner is expected to sell out quick, so keep that in mind when tickets go on sale tomorrow morning. Lesbian folkies the Indigo Girls will once again play on the Summer Nights stage for two nights, Tuesday and Wednesday, July 19 and 20. Pop singer Aimee Mann joins the Summer Nights lineup, after performing back-to-back years at the Woodland Park Zoo, with a concert scheduled for Saturday, August 6. Los Lonely Boys, fresh from a Grammy win, hit the stage with Ozomatli on Wednesday, August 10.
Elsewhere, Hawaiian vocalist Kealii Reichel will bring traditional island music to Seattle on Saturday, August 20 and a smoking double-bill featuring Susan Tedeschi and the Blind Boys of Alabama takes place on Thursday, August 25. Put that show on your calendar with a side of ribs. The concert series concludes on Friday, August 26 with three jazz masters on one stage, Stanley Jordan, Bela Fleck and Jean-Luc Ponty. These are just some of the artists who appear on 2005s Summer Nights lineup. For the complete list of performers, visit summernights.org. Tickets for all shows go on sale tomorrow, April 9 (9:00 a.m.), online at ticketmaster.com and at all Ticketmaster locations. The Seattle Gay News is proud to provide coverage for several Summer Nights concerts, so look for previews and detailed information on the new venue and parking as we near the dates for individual performances.

Gay Latino community pays tribute to Selena at Galerias tomorrow night
A reminder to all Selena fans. Galerias (611 Broadway Ave. East) is hosting a night of music, fun and remembrance in honor of the late Latin singer Selena tomorrow night, April 9. The event commemorates the 10-year anniversary of her death. The Mexican star had conquered the Spanish-language music market and was well on her way to achieving international fame when the president of her fan club murdered her in a hotel room. Selenas life story and tragic ending inspired the feature film, appropriately named after her, starring Jennifer Lopez. The Seattle Gay News joins the Gay Latino community in remembering the life of Selena. Tomorrow nights event is open to the public, though limited to those 21 and over. Cost is $5, which includes a free drink before midnight, bite-size food, a drag show and Selena look-alike contest ($200 first place, $100 second place, giveaways for the participants). And of course, price of admission includes the hottest Latin tails with a King County zip code. The shamelessly funny La Gorda is the nights emcee. Rico suave baby.
