Yakima Pride celebrates 10th birthday
Yakima Pride celebrates 10th birthday
This is the ten-year anniversary of Pride in Yakima and south central Washington. Festivities this year will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday - June 10, 11 12.

Friday, June 10 - “Club 54” Show & Dance. Performance by Yamilet and her guests. 18 and over event. BYOB. 2014 South 1st St., Yakima.

Saturday, June 11 - “Pride in the Park” at Fulbright Park. Fun games and a picnic/potluck. Go south leaving Union Gap on Hwy 97 – turn at the Fulbright Park & Tractor Museum sign. 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. There will be Info Tables/Booths; entertainment from Vital Toxin (local band), a local duet, singers from Naches and Los Bailadores Del Sol (Latino dancers). Speakers will include Genevieve Aguilar (ACLU), Mayor Paul George (tentative), Leslie Webb (Director of Diversity Studies at CWU), Trevor Gilmam (president of Davis GSA) also speaking at Seattle Pride, Robert Raketty (Executive Director of GLSEN Puget Sound/NW Regional Director-Scouting for All), Marsha Botzer (tentative - Co-chair Safe Schools Coalition Treasurer & National Board Member of the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force).

Yakima County Health District will be providing free confidential HIV/AIDS testing. Their fifth year with us.

Saturday, June 11 - Pride Dance and “You Make The Difference Awards” (awards given to organizations and individuals who have made a difference to the Gay community of Yakima and south central Washington). 8:00 p.m.-2:00 a.m. at “Club 54.” Only $5 cover. This is an all age dance. All are invited and welcome.

Sunday, June 12 - Pride Worship and Continental breakfast (casual) 10:00 a.m. at 223 North 1st Street, Yakima. Then off to Randall Park for games: volleyball, bocce, etc. (fun in the park). Then back to 223 North 1st Street for “Root Beer Floats.” Donations (for breakfast and floats)-proceeds go to the new LGBT youth support group, Y.O.U.

At 3:00 p.m. the Seattle Men’s & Women’s Chorus with Diverse Harmony (only GSA chorus in the nation) will perform at Capital Theatre. For tickets call TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT).
