Northwest Bears donate $7,000 to Lambert House
Northwest Bears donate $7,000 to Lambert House
by Dan Lee - Northwest Bears

The event should have been complete with fanfares, but it was a modest potluck meeting of Northwest Bears on May 21, 2005. But to Lambert House and Northwest Bears alike, it was an extraordinary evening, as Northwest Bears presented a check of $7,009.89 to Ken Shulman, executive director of Lambert House.

The funds were raised during the Spring Thaw XI Weekend held in April 14-17, 2005. They represent the aggregate contributions from various fundraising efforts such as sale of “Jello-shots” at bar events, raffles, a “Beard, Belly & Buns” contest and a silent auction. But most of all they represent the generosity of participants at bar events and of visiting Bears from all parts of the country and Canada. It is often said the “every little bit counts,” and in this case the little bits added up to an impressive donation to a worthy organization.

Said Ken Shulman in accepting the donation, “The Northwest Bears represent the best in community building. They are a social group that gathers together to have a good time and does good at the same time. The LGBTQ youth of our community are lucky to have the Northwest Bears as benefactors. Thank you, Bears, for helping our youth!”

But thanks goes also to all the participants, to all the behind the scenes workers and to the sponsors, local businesses and supporters of Spring Thaw without whose support, Spring Thaw would not be possible. One special thanks goes to K & L Distributors and Bud Light, a major sponsor of the event.
