Music marks ArtsPride celebration at ArtsWest
Special Late Nite entertainment and a Sunday evening musical concert highlight this year’s ArtsPride, an annual celebration of Gay Pride at ArtsWest Playhouse and Gallery in West Seattle

Gay Pride is already in swing at ArtsWest Gallery. “Cellar Cabaret” and “Rising Star” are two regularly scheduled Late Nite programs that allow ArtsWest to encourage and showcase local vocalists. During the month of June, these Friday night music programs will present the following performers who are part of ArtsPride.

Friday, June 3 at 10:30 p.m.– An ArtsWest Cabaret event held on the main stage with female impersonator Chinchilla (a.k.a. Brian Koehler). Once again, Chinchilla von Schwamp graces the stage of ArtsWest with larger-than-life costumes, absurd stories and some wonderful music. Join her on her madcap adventure through several of her multiple personalities that she chooses to channel for the evening. Beer and wine served at intermission and before and after the show. For tickets, $10, call (206) 938-0339.

Friday, June 10 at 10:30 p.m. on the main stage, Dish performs a special concert to celebrate ArtsPride Month. Describing themselves at “Irreverent. Queer. Women. A Capella,” this group of eight women sing a selection of a capella songs that take an irreverent look at themselves and the world around them. Tickets are just $10 by calling (206) 938-0339.

On Sunday, June 19, at 7:00 p.m. the Seattle Lesbian and Gay Chorus takes to ArtsWest’s main stage for a special concert in celebration of Gay Pride. Tickets for this event are also just $10 at the box office - (206) 938-0339 or online at www.artswest.org.

The SLGC is well known in the Pacific Northwest for the power, warmth, humor, self-celebration, and musical excellence that are the hallmarks of their performances. The chorus’ musical precision and polish continues to refine, tackling with skill and depth an incredibly wide range of material, from choral arrangements of pop songs, to intense, multi-movement classical choral works, to moving pieces about GLBT experience and lives commissioned especially for the chorus. The ArtsWest concert affirms the chorus’ mission to “entertain, enlighten and move our audiences through musical and performance excellence within a community that celebrates and affirms all genders and sexualities.”
