Northwest Folklife Festival

Memorial Day Weekend

Seattle Center

For those who didn’t get there fill of drumming last weekend at the World Rhythm Festival, and for those of us who didn’t know about it so we didn’t get there until the last minute, you’ll be pleased to know there’ll be lots of drum circles at this weekend’s Northwest Folklife Festival. And there will also be workshops and community drumming circles led by Mary Anderson, Peter “Fanga” Yarborough and Jamtown John among others.

The theme for this year’s Memorial Day weekend festival is “Passing on Our Stories” and should be as much fun as ever, offering visitors a chance to explore new music and old forms of music like my personal favorite, Celtic music and bluegrass. And of course, it’s a great place to meet new people and hang out with friends, so you could think of Folklife as a total “win/win” situation. Just show up, with or without percussion instruments, with or without your own picnic and I’m sure you’ll find something fun to do.
