Sasquatch Music Festival gets ready to stomp on the Gorge
by Melissa Baron - Special to the SGN

Sasquatch Music Festival featuring Kanye West, Modest Mouse, Jem, Pixies, Bloc Party, United State of Electronica, Wilco, etc.

Saturday, May 28 – Noon (start)

Gorge Amphitheater – Tix through Ticketmaster

The infamous Sasquatch Music Festival has attracted acts from Coldplay to the Postal Service to the Roots in its first three years. This year promises to be just as incredible. The main stage features nine bands from noon to midnight. United State of Electronica will begin the day with their funky electronica and delicious dance moves. Next, smash hit London band Bloc Party will perform, followed by the gorgeous Jem from Wales. Ray LaMontagne, the Arcade Fire and Wilco will fill the afternoon and early evening with eclectic songs and sweet melodies. Be sure to check out the Arcade Fire, who are known for captivating an audience. Grammy-winning rap sensation Kanye West will play at seven, and he is not to be missed. The evening ends with Seattle’s cherished Modest Mouse and the still rocking Pixies.

In addition to the main stage, Sasquatch has the Wookie and Yeti stages. The Yeti stage has acts from 11:15 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Smoosh, the adorable band of two preteen girls from Seattle, hip hop group the Blue Scholars and the talented Visqueen are some of the groups playing the Yeti Stage. Acts on the Wookie stag, from noon to 10:45 p.m., include Seattle’s Aqueduct, pop rock band The Dears and the poetic Joanna Newsom.

Sasquatch has a much anticipated lineup and is a must see on the concert calendar for June. If the post concert drive sounds unbearable, stay the night and camp with other music lovers at the Gorge. The weather should be nice, the people should be lovely, the musicians will be sexy and the music promises to be incredible.

Pre-concert CD recommendation: The College Dropout (Kanye West), Good News for People Who Love Bad News (Modest Mouse) and Finally Woken (Jem).
