Pat Groom
Pat Groom
Pat Groom has left our frame of reference, has departed from our planet, and has moved on. She was a warrior, an artist, a defender of women and a friend whom we will never forget.

Anyone who knew her in this lifetime will be indelibly imprinted with her charisma, her charm, her audacity and her love. She overcame many obstacles in her life. She accepted the many blows of fate and rose above the them time and again, blowing us away with her stamina and her strength.

She was a gardener extraordinaire, a sculptor, a rascal and a dreamer. Even when Pat’s health had deteriorated to the point where she spent most of her time in their home, she maintained an attitude of doing what she could, enjoying what she could and focusing on what was available instead of what she was losing.

She always seemed to have the energy to listen to her friends sort through their problems when she had insurmountable troubles of her own. She was amazing in that respect, always seeming to be able to tap into an invisible well of compassion when someone she loved was in need.

Her partner of 21 years, Mary Hussman, is left with a plethora of memories and stories that at some point will bring comfort to her. With Mary’s unfaltering love and support, Pat worked her way through an unbelievable series of medical situations and emergencies, taking risks, controlling her own health care, and making life altering decisions time and again.

At the age of 57, after more than ten years of struggle, she is gone but the legend lives on.

There will be a memorial service on Sunday, June 12 at 2709 E. Marion St. at 2:00 p.m. Anyone who knew Pat or was touched by Pat is invited to attend and share their experience and feelings. Feel free to bring flowers or other items for the altar.
