Pride reaches out across borders with weekend Peace Arch event

Members of Seattle Pride and the Vancouver Pride Society traveled to the Peace Arch in Blaine over the weekend to commemorate “Pride without Borders.” The two organizations pledged to work together to form one regional network of people who support equal rights for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgender individuals (LGBT). The two organizations united under the Peace Arch and joined their rainbow flags.

“This is the first time there has been an attempt to break down international borders and unite in support of Pride,” said Seattle Pride spokesperson Dale Kershner.”Our region has much at stake, and we need to fight for our rights together as a united force.”

The Peace Arch event was the first activity in a busy month leading up to Seattle Pride 2005. Pride is scheduled for June 25-26, with most activities in and around Volunteer Park.Organizers hope to continue working together in the months ahead with cross-training, sharing volunteers, and more.
