| Destinys Child to perform at Key Arena in early September |
I was going into Bartells this week. I needed bath soap and laundry detergent. In the parking lot were three Gay boys inside a black SUV singing loudly to Beyonces Crazy in Love. Typical, I thought. But you know what? I do that. Yes, me. I sing that song out loud every time. Snow Patrol actually did a cover of it once. Its off the chain. Anyway, Im sure Ill see those singing queens at the Destinys Child concert at Key Arena on September 9. Thats right. Theyre coming to Seattle. The show has yet to be officially announced, but trust me. Its a go.
The last time Destinys Child performed in the Puget Sound was at KISS 106.1s Jingle Bell Bash two years ago. They were flawless. My brother shamelessly took pictures of Beyonces ass while my nieces danced and sang to every hit single the r & b divas performed that night, including that sassy Bootylicious number. So heres the scoop on the Destinys Child concert at Key Arena. Even though their website says September 5, the date Ive been given is September 9. Tickets go on sale at the end of this month. Check back here in The Music Lounge for details, or ring me at the SGN office. Just dont ring me during Oprah. I dont like that. Get ready for Destinys Child, people! |

Two hot CDs get some Gay lovin tonight when the Seattle Gay News and R Place present a dual CD-release party for Black Eyed Peas Monkey Business and Commons Be. Listen to tracks from both CDs and win cool goodies, like full-length copies of both albums and singles, plus stickers and posters. Black Eyed Peas, fronted by hot mama Fergie, won a Grammy earlier this year for their single Lets Get It Started. They are set to headline KISS 106.1s Big Freakin Deal at White River Amphitheatre on June 25. I am so there. Like a flip flop sale at American Eagle
Common debuted strongly at #2 on Billboards album charts last week, his best showing ever. His CD features collaborations with Kanye West and John Mayer, and its been getting rave reviews from music publications in all regions of the US. I have a copy of it and Im very impressed. Very. I smell a Best Rap Album nomination for Common when this years Grammy nominations are announced in December. Party time tonight at R Place is set for 9ish. If youre reading this on Friday, get a move on. Its totally casual and informal, so just walk in, order a cocktail and enjoy the tunes, and possibly win some goodies. This tour is being called The Rolling Stones On Stage, offering a limited number of fans the privilege to be up close and personal with the band, in seats built onto the stage. If youve gotta see The Rolling Stones in concert once in your life, or if a close friend or relative is dying to see them, hustle down to any Ticketmaster location tomorrow at 10:00 am and buy your tickets. | Josh Rouses new CD Nashville is one of the years best. |
Theres more to Nashville than just country music. And Josh Rouse knows it. The singer-songwriters latest work is titled after the Southern city, which happens to be the hub for all things honky tonk. But Rouses music reflects a different kind of Nashville. One that stays up late until the wee hours of morning, one that opens its doors to artists from all musical backgrounds, and one that eventually closes its doors to those who dont fit the big record label mold.
Rouses Nashville is reminiscent of the best songs in the early resumes of Bob Dylan and Neil Young, two giants hes often compared to. The arrangements and vocals match evenly throughout, most notably on the tracks Sad Eyes, Its the Nighttime, Streetlights and Life. Two entries where Rouse really struts his talent are the jangly Winter in the Hamptons and the upbeat, piano-led Why Wont You Tell Me What.
Mentioned earlier this year on CNN/Entertainment Weeklys Must List, Rouses affecting and finely produced Nashville is one of 2005s true standouts. Its a peaceful, thoughtfully evoked collection of gems. The musician, who relocated to France from Tennessee, is more than worthy of checking out. If you buy any CD from an artist youve never heard of before, let it be this one. Fans of Dylan, Young, David Gray and pop-folk singer-songwriters will find it to be right up their alley |
