Lipstick and Lust
The planets and life in Seattle blend for an interesting Lipstick and Lust
by Rajkhet Dirzhud-Rashid - SGN A&E Writer

Life has been (in the words of the Lobster Alice character), interesting.

Lusting has reached a significant kind of epiphany, in that the knife edge of wanting has quieted a bit, but I still cruise cute girls, everywhere. And last weekend I did have a few adventures, taking in some music with my friend, Joyce at a wonderful place downtown, which features a delicious seafood buffet and some spicy jazz and modern pop performed by a local group, Jubilee. And whats really different about this group (besides the fact that they have a differently abled drummer whos really great) is that they donate a lot of their money to an international justice group that preserves the laws in other countries that protect womens rights and the rights of those too poor to fight for themselves. Cool, huh?

And Ive been SIFFing (that being attending lots of Seattle International Film Festival films, including a very weird film called 3 Extremes that made grown men run for the exits), and having tons of fun filling my brain with cultuh. So, with all of that, and a play buzzing about in my brain, begging to be written, I still had time to try some really cool products that Ill tell you about right now!

But before that, I have to mention a little dish from the SIFF frontlines. After the interview with hot director Vivian Wu (director of the lusciously funny Saving Face), a certain publicist opined that shed love to be going to New York, where Wu now lives and La Hotness, Wu said, and I quote: If you worked for me, youd be my bitch, which both brought a girlish giggle from said publicist and heated up the room we all stood in before yours truly had to make an exit for her healthy workout scheduled for that day. Hmmm!

First, you simply must try the Ecco Bella line of eye shadows at Madison Market, particularly the khaki and charcoal (which I tried and absolutely love!), both of which go on like silk and can be worn as a shadow, dry, or a liner, wet. And if you brush the charcoal over black pencil, you get a wonderful look that just begs to be given more attention. Use the khaki color as a liner over an aqua pencil (hey, even Wet and Wild makes a great one now!), and you have the perfect, light summer look. And for dewy lips that taste good too, try Bonne Bells Lip Lights 2 in Sugar Bronze/Clear. Believe me, youll feel sexy and your sun-dried lips will thank you (thats for when the summer really shows up).

Also, I stopped in to Nordstroms and picked up some Incanto, Dream and Roberto Cavallis Oro, both of which are perfect summer scents, as is Sur la Nil, which counterperson Brian hipped me to, because Ms. Bootylicious La Jennifer wasnt on hand. Try em for yourself, or with someone you love, or better, when you out and about showing your pride for the whole wonderful month. I guarantee, you will get noticed, and maybe more!

Finally I highly recommend trying Giovannis Tea Tree Triple Threat Conditioner (which tingles a little if you leave it on a little while, longer for longer time), and their styling gel is not only enough to hold these wild locks, but has no alcohol either. I also tried Shin-a-loc for the dreads and was so happy to have my hair actually shining again. Ooh la la!

Also, if youre looking for something cool to wear while youre bopping about town, meeting and greeting those hotties from other towns (I met two cute things from Orange County last week on the bus who promised to read this column and are just thrilled there is such a thing as Lipstick and Lust), do wander in to Lipstick Traces in its new location at 303 E. Pine St.

Weve been on the hill for five years, and in this location for 6 months, and we feel this is a better location. Were really happy to be in this location, and think its a much better space than our old one. We get a lot more foot traffic here, and our clientele has increased since we moved, said Jen, the counterperson I talked to a couple of weeks ago when I happened by after an appointment. The store features national designer clothing, some of whom have also had their artwork featured in the store, and had trunk shows of their clothing, something owner Jenn Galluci says Lipstick Traces will be continuing to do in the future. So go by, meet the nice women who work there, buy a pillow, a pair of their divine earrings or one of the original cards they also feature. The store is located next to Bauhaus Coffee and Books, so you can get some java and a pastry before or after. Theyre open Monday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. And if you like custom made celtic clothing or bustiers, get in touch with Jypsie Designs at hotmail.com jpsiedesign@hotmail.com. I saw a sample of her work at a recent fair and can tell you the corset I drooled over was not only reasonably priced, but absolutely yummy looking.

For those of you who are picnicking, now that the weather has improved, do try some of the delish selections available at both Madison Market and Trader Joes, both of which added joy to my palate when I picked up some pumpkin seed ravioli, olives and Hit cookies to gnosh on during Folklife. But, if you wanna bar-b-que, then you should try my own, family recipe for the sauce everyone will love. You can use a natural sauce like any you buy at Madison Market, then add one fourth teaspoon of grated, fresh ginger, the freshly squeezed juice of either a medium blood orange, or juice orange (the sweeter, the better), one tablespoon of cider vinegar and a couple of pinches (to your taste, hotter for the brave one of you, less for the less brave) cayenne pepper. Let this mixture simmer at low heat for about an hour, stirring frequently to prevent burning, and adding more sauce and juice as it boils down. If it tastes hot, sweet and spicy at the same time, you know its done. Baste your favorites and enjoy! Add some freshly made potato salad, or a big green salad, cornbread, and freshly brewed iced tea or freshly made lemonade, and you have yourself an instant get together. Have some friends over for Pride Sunday and everyone will remember you forever with good will.

Now, since you slackers have not sent any poetry in, I guess Ill have to treat you, again, with some of my own work. Not that thats a bad thing, of course, but hey, I just know there are some good, Dyke poets out there going unknown, because theyre too shy to send in work. Urge them on, urge them to share their budding talent with us all. Just remember the basic rules: noting dreadful, women only, and nothing excessively pornographic and tired.

A Woman Howls Lust Under Moonlight

I am water ready to boil

Ready to turn into waves of red fire

You are desert needing quenching

Break open take me in

Let me fill you up with my song

Tear my skin from me and crawl into

Each crevice until I am only light

Let me bleed and

May my taste be on your tongue

In your mind my smell in your soul

Your sweet toes suddenly your sweet toes

Lacquered and lazy there to be sucked

I want to bite you

To peel back your desire and lick it raw

Like a wild cat like a dog like all hungers

Put my fingers in your wet places become your

Orgasm like the sun coming up like

The sun coming up all over

The world.

So, there you are my sweet little peaches. Go out and be a furious force of hot Dykiness in the city. Take over downtown by holding hands in droves, kiss in front of the Space Needle, and let your Pride flags fly all over, for this is our month. Oh, and Im hoping to feature lots of happy Dykes being&happy Dykes ( like that wonderful, giggling couple I rode the bus with a few months back, who seemed to be so much in lust) in the issue just before Pride. Send me your girl smooching girl photos, your I wanna be a rock star Dyke photos and whatever, to feature in the next column all about Lipstick Pride. You can e-mail them to me at ijanaral@yahoo.com, ASAP. But folks, can the spam, puhleeze! And to a certain, ex-friend, no man is worth losing a good gal pal over, remember that sweetie.

Buh bye! Oh, oh, before I go, I have to give you a heads up that Ted Axe, that wild man in drag is playing Pride again, and will have some art up at the LGBT Community Center in July. He says hes dubbed the collection of paintings Nudes in Red Rooms. Should be tasty. See ya!
