| Global contestants converge on Palm Springs this October to battle for the crown
PALM SPRINGS - Mr. Gay USA 2006 is out there somewhere. And when he is selected to represent the USA, he will be competing against "Mr. Gay" winners from Germany, Norway, Hungary, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Italy and Switzerland for the overall title of Mr. Gay International. The Competition happens in Palm Springs, California, October 7-9, 2005 (Columbus Day weekend). "Mr. Gay" winners from around the nation will compete for the national title of Mr. Gay U.S. in Palm Springs. The same weekend, our national representative will go against contestants from around the globe as the desert heats up to capture the overall, worldwide title of Mr. Gay 2006. Says Palm Springs Mayor Ron Oden, "We could not be happier to host an event that directs the world's eyes on the inclusiveness and beauty of our fine city." "The International Competition for Mr. Gay 2006 marks the first time that a staged-based network of competitions has been produced to find that special Gay 'boy next door' to represent the broader gay community," says Producer Don Spradlin. Both the national and the international competitions will follow an elimination round format, similar to reality TV shows over a period of three day. Says Spradlin, "Judges will be looking at each contestant's qualities from an overall standpoint." Contestants will go head-to-head in grueling off-stage events such as firemen's training, rock climbing, and more. Internationally known photographer Tom Bianchi, will capture the contestants on their quest for glory and the event will be televised for a national audience. When all the votes are tabulated, Mr. Gay 2006 will be crowned and awarded a Grand Prize package valued at more than ten thousand dollars. He will also begin his duties as the Gay community's goodwill ambassador, working to promote positive awareness worldwide.
