Kings of Leon w/
The Secret Machines
July 16 @ the Moore Theatre
The Moore Theater was packed Saturday night with screaming hipsters and hotties, waiting to see the Kings of Leon. The show began with a fun five-piece band from Scotland called the Shout Out Louds. A few days earlier the band performed on Jay Leno, singing hits from their first full length CD "Howl Howl Gaff Gaff." They also have an EP out called Very Loud. The band consists of four trendy men and one beautiful woman. They have two guitars, bass, percussion, piano and sometimes, a harmonica or an accordion. They were a perfect opener and they helped the crowd get happy.
Next, sexy Dallas, TX band The Secret Machines took the stage. One of the most noticeable parts of their performance was the lights. The combination of strobe and color made the show very fun. They opened with their hit single "Nowhere Again," from their first album Now Here Is Nowhere. As the Secret Machines played, the Moore began filling up. There were seats with a lot of space in the front for dancing, and people WERE dancing. The vocals sounded a bit overpowered by the instrumentals, but no one seemed to notice or care. The band was dancing and having a lot of fun, just like the audience. A few seats away from me in the balcony, a guy was standing up and jumping up and down, and a few seats the other direction were two girls with home made Secret Machines shirts proclaiming their love. The Secret Machines played a two song encore, which is incredibly) odd for an opening band, but was very well received. In meeting the Secret Machines after their set, it was confirmed that they are some of the nicest guys around.
When Kings of Leon got on stage, the audience erupted in applause. They had a huge backdrop with their name and a drawing. They began the show with my favorite, "Taper Jean Girl," from 2005's Aha Shake Heartbreak. To say the Kings of Leon are good looking is an understatement: they're incredibly sexy. They have a rock star appearance and a rock star attitude. And evenmore exciting? They're brothers and a cousin! It looked like Kings of Leon had just as much fun playing as the audience had watching.
The four-piece unit played hits like "The Bucket" and "King of the Rodeo," in addition to some less heard singles. "You guys are fuckin' amazing!" said lead singer Caleb Followill in response to the crowd reaction. The Moore was packed and the kids were dancing, the smell of weed was absolutely everywhere. When the show "ended," Followill said "We're Kings of Leon, God bless you all," before throwing down the mic.
A few minutes later, the Kings were back for a two-song encore. After the songs ended and the audience continued screaming Followill yelled "the city of Seattle, thank you very fucking much!" threw down the mike again and strutted off stage.
All in all, the show was absolutely fabulous. The energy was high, the people were hot (some were high) and the music was to die for. If the Kings of Leon comes back to Seattle, check them out, they're a great band with great energy.
