Over 200 people roamed the foot paths and groomed grass of Evergreen Park in Bremerton for Kitsap County's ninth annual Pride celebration on Saturday, July 16. The sunny weather illuminated the 10 acre park and its 1,900 feet of shoreline.
The Rainbow City Band, Jerry Peerson, Ericka Wright, Patterns, Imperial Sovereign Court of Tacoma, Rocky Horror Picture Show Cast and other local talent provided the entertainment. Buff boys and girls were everywhere, together with lots of drag queens and even a Dr. Frank-N-Furter from the Rocky Horror Picture Show to provide plenty of eye candy!
Notable activists Bill Dubay of DontAmend.com, Marsha Botzer of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and George Cheung of Equal Rights Washington were the featured speakers. They all spoke about the local and national battles facing the LGBT community.
The event also included over 30 booths which offered resources, products and information to passersby. Food vendors sold Philly cheese steaks, sausages, hot dogs, curly fries and funnel cakes to the hungry crowd.
Michael Goodnow, Kitsap Pride 2005's co-chair, said he was delighted by the turnout. "There are so many people who helped us to pull this off, who made this all happen," he said. "It was a wonderful event. I don't think you could ask for better weather."
