| Ron, Chris and R.Z. Pignacious A Love Story |
Story and caption by Rev. Barbara Allen, CMP
Ron Zwicker loved cooking, good food, friends, our community and ceramics. When his friend, Chris Benson of Mt. Vernon, learned that Ron was dying of cancer, Chris tried to think of some way to honor Ron's memory that would be meaningful and of ongoing benefit to others. Chris also wanted to support Skagit PFLAG, with which he's been active.
Ron had taught Chris a great deal about ceramics. The bank was one of the last pieces Ron poured and fired before succumbing to the disease. Chris cleaned the greenware carefully, lovingly, thinking about his friend. Ron then fired it for him, as one of his final pieces.
In the midst of his grief, and with great love, Chris carefully painted and sealed bright rainbow stripes onto what would come to be known as R.Z. Pignacious, now ready to receive donations on behalf of Skagit PFLAG's "Fab-5" youth group.
Look for R.Z. at upcoming events. He's always hungry, so please feed him as much and as often as possible.
