| Coming next week: SGN's live review of The Strokes 'secret show' at The Crocodile Café |
by Albert Rodriguez - SGN A & E Writer
How often do you count your lucky stars that you live in a major city? I do it every fucking day. And this week, I was doing it on the hour. That's because I found out The Strokes were coming to Seattle for a small, secret show to promote their new album First Impressions of Earth. Local alternative radio station 107.7 The End, a co-sponsor of this special performance, told their listeners that The Strokes were scheduled to play Seattle this week. But full details would only be given out on the air, where listeners could also win a limited number of tickets to the intimate, surprise gig.
I got the information Monday morning from the group's management. And I was told to keep it under wraps. Which I did. Until I found out that a bunch of people already knew about it. But I still kept quiet. Until I saw the information on The Strokes' official website. That's when I let it out of the bag to my friends and co-workers. Then, The End announced that a very limited number of tickets would be available for purchase at The Crocodile Café (chosen venue) on Wednesday afternoon, the day before the show. Wanna know how long those tickets lasted? Eleven minutes. Holy tamales! Anywho, because the Seattle Gay News goes to print on Thursday nights, and since The Strokes concert was Thursday night of this week, a review of their "secret show" won't appear until our January 13 issue hits the streets. Until then, thank your lucky stars (and mine) we don't live in the sticks. That would suck.
