3rd Annual Mr. & Miss Gay Asian/Pacific Islander International Pageant comes to the Broadway Performance Hall
3rd Annual Mr. & Miss
Gay Asian/Pacific Islander International Pageant
Broadway Performance Hall
Jan. 28th, 2005, 7pm
It is a beauty pageant unlike any other. Drag queens and drag kings from across the Pacific Northwest will descend on Seattle's Capitol Hill on January 28th to compete in the 3rd Annual Mr. & Ms. Gay Asian/Pacific Islander International Pageant.
The theme of this year is A&F: Asian and Fabulous. "This is our opportunity to put a face on a segment of the population that is often overlooked within the traditional Asian American community," said David Luc Nguyen, co-founder of the API event. "Once a year, we showcase the incredible beauty and diversity within the Queer Asian community on a grand stage."
The pageant will be a feast for the eyes. Contestants will be all dolled up and dressed in spectacular outfits: their national costume, eveningwear, and swimsuit. And as if the talent portion of the event is not enough, taiko drummers, dragon dancers and other performers will entertain the audience.
In addition to moving to a larger venue, the Broadway Performance Hall, organizers this year have set bigger goals. API plans to use this year's pageant as a springboard to becoming a non-profit organization that sponsors social activities and college scholarships for the API community.
Tickets are still available for the event. They are $12 at the door or $10 if you purchase them in advance. This event is being organized in collaboration with the Mpowerment Program of Life Long Aids Alliance and The API International Council.
To get the community in the mood for the evening, an Asian Art Exhibit right before the pageant will feature artwork from API artists inside the foyer of the Broadway Performance Hall. To cap off the night, Neighbours Underground (1509 Broadway) is hosting an API After Party complete with special performances.
