My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult at El Corazon, Feb.9

"And this is what the devil does"
There are not a whole heck of a lot of bands who can fit into so many musical categories as easily as a 10-inch hogleg slathered with 40-weight sliding down Linda Lovelace's gullet, but My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult has been doing just that for just shy of 20 years now. Usually found under the 'Goth/Industrial' section at most music stores, TKK includes such sonic and stylistic elements as Techno, Lounge, Metal, Funk, Surf, Glam, and Punk, while expertly weaving dialog from cheeserific 60's & 70's flicks into a soundscape of sex, drugs, God, sex, booze, sex, gore, madness, sex, and did I mention sex?
"I'm the electric messiah, the AC/DC God."
I was totally convinced TTK took their expressive handle from some obscure, Helter Skelter-era drive-in feature for years til I tried looking for it in the Imdb¬hin'. Turns out 'My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult' was an art film project conceived by a couple of trash movie-loving Chicago club kids in the mid-'80's, which transmogrified into the house band for the Purgatory Playboy Club it is today.
"Oh, suck long and hard on my little juice box!"
With the two aspiring filmmakers Groovie Mann (Franke Nardiello, vocals) and Buzz McCoy (Marston Daley, keys & vocals) at the core, TKK has had a personnel roster of some 30 musicians, vocalists, and go-go dancers since their first album (on vinyl, thank you), 'I See Good Spirits And I See Bad Spirits', with such colorful aliases as Abbie Damned, Arena Rock, Skip Towne, and Sinderella Pussie. The 2006 lineup includes Levi Levi on Bass, Justin Thyme on Drums, and Pepper Somerset on vocals and random moans of ecstasy.
"I may be a bitch, but I'll never be a butch!"
After 'Good Spirits's dark-but-danceable success, TKK sank ever deeper into the libidinal mire, defined by 'Sexplosion', which included their most recognizable number, 'Sex On Wheelz', the ultimate, g-stringed, pole-humping grinder that appeared on the playlist of every dance club worth its drink tickets in 1992 (and was featured in the soundtrack of the otherwise forgettable 'Roger Rabbit' ripoff , 'Cool World'). TKK toured heavily, opening for equally sick-n-wrong acts like Marilyn Manson, Ministry, KMFDM, and Lords Of Acid, and continued to musically explore the sweaty underbelly of American trash culture, most recently, their valentine to disco decadence, 'Gay, Black, And Married', soon to be followed up by 'The Filthiest Show In Town', which, I'm guessing, is about sex.
"Don't you know there are more beautiful things in this world than that thing&between your legs!"
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult is mud-spattered black leather and moulting feather boas, extra dry martinis and Pabst Blue Ribbon, a good long fist-fuck and an Ecstasy-fueled pansexual orgy, a Herschell Gordon Lewis blood feast and a John Waters filth fest, busty supervixens with Afros and stiletto go-go boots, blue-jeaned bikers with bulging packages and a baggy full of 'shrooms. In short, great family entertainment&if the family on question happens to be the Mansons.
"You want danger? I'll show you what danger is, baby!"
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, with Space Vacuum&From Outer Space plays El Corazon, 109 Eastlake East, www.elcorazonseattle.com, Thurs., Feb.9, door at 8:30, show at 9:30.
