Sasquatch Music Festival features best lineup in five-year history

Missed Beck at the Paramount Theatre last summer? Death Cab for Cutie at the Paramount Theatre in November and The Showbox in December? Couldn't get tickets fast enough to catch Arctic Monkeys at The Crocodile Café next month? Then turn that frown upside down because you can see all three artists on the same stage on the same day. I'm not fucking with you, they're part of this year's Sasquatch Music Festival lineup at The Gorge during Memorial Day weekend (May 26-28). The three-day roster also includes Nine Inch Nails, The Shins, We Are Scientists, Sufjan Stevens, Matisyahu, Queens of the Stone Age, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Iron & Wine, Sam Roberts, Wolfmother and many more.

This is the most impressive artist lineup I can recall for the five year-old Sasquatch Music Festival, and it couldn't have come at a better time. While the previous years featured some well-known rock acts and highly praised up and comers (Coldplay, Modest Mouse, Kanye West, Jason Mraz), there didn't appear to be a growth pattern similar to the Coachella, Bonnaroo, Siren and CMJ festivals. That all changes come summertime when more than 40 alternative bands perform at The Gorge, an amphitheatre located two hours away from Seattle that overlooks the Columbia River. The nearest towns are George, Vantage and Ellensburg.

Tickets for individual days, priced at $55.00, go on sale Saturday, March 4 (11:00 am) at all Ticketmaster locations. I'm told a festival pass for the entire weekend will be available as well, but a package price wasn't given to me by deadline. The complete schedule and details on camping, parking and other handy information can be found at www.sasquatchfestival.com. A surprise band is slated to appear Friday afternoon and I have no clue who it is, but I'll do my best to find out. The Seattle Gay News will once again provide coverage of the Sasquatch Music Festival to you. Look for a preview of the event closer to show date. If you don't feel like camping (I don't believe in it either), I recommend staying in nearby Ellensburg at a cheap motel. The drive from there to The Gorge is about a half hour.

She Wants Revenge sell out March show at Neumo's

LA-based duo She Wants Revenge isn't playing the Sasquatch Music Festival this year, although they did make the trek to The Gorge in 2005. The goth-dance pair, comprised of Adam Braven (aka Adam 12) and Justin Warfield, has a cool gig of their own in Seattle next month at Neumo's. Co-presented by the Seattle Gay News and 107.7 The End, She Wants Revenge's show on March 12 is totally sold out. It's actually been sold out for over two weeks. I've never seen these guys in concert before, but I'm told they give an unbelievable performance. The rising act drew 1200 enthusiastic fans to an in-store appearance at a Southern California record store in January and have been busy making talk show circuit stops, most recently on Letterman. Music videos for the singles "These Things" and "Tear You Apart" are receiving solid rotation at "Alternative Tuesdays", a weekly club event at Manray Video Bar (514 E. Pine) sponsored by the Seattle Gay News. We'll have cool She Wants Revenge freebies to give away at Manray on March 7.

Wainwright, Stipe and Bright Eyes lead artist roster for anti-Iraq war gig

Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright and R.E.M. centerpiece Michael Stipe, both openly out performers, are protesting the Iraq war with a special concert at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom. The lineup also touts Bright Eyes, Fischerspooner, Peaches, Devendra Banhart and Public Enemy's Chuck D. "Bring 'Em Home Now" takes place March 20, with proceeds benefiting the organizations Iraq Veterans Against the War and Veterans for Peace. Comedienne and Air America Radio host Jeaneane Garofalo serves as emcee and peace activist Cindy Sheehan will deliver a speech at the event, which marks the third anniversary of the United States' invasion of Iraq. And may I say that I think our current administration is a piece of shit. The smelliest piece is George W. Fuckup, who I hope gets a lashing someday for every life he's ruined on planet Earth.
