Madonna gets into the Coachella
groove with Scissor Sisters,
James Blunt, Franz Ferdinand,
Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Art Brut
Getting drunk in a desert just got cooler. Reason being is Madonna's surprise announcement to perform at the 2006 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California two months from now. The Material Girl is scheduled to shimmy onstage Sunday night, April 30, the second day of the internationally recognized event that also features Scissor Sisters, James Blunt, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Art Brut, Matisyahu, Coheed and Cambria, and a dozen other bands and artists. Saturday's (April 29) roster includes Franz Ferdinand, Depeche Mode, She Wants Revenge, Daft Punk, Ladytron, and many other alternative performers.
Madonna revealed plans for a summer tour on Ellen last month. Details of the road outing weren't immediately given, and my ears have yet to be filled with any new information. Though my ears were recently filled with something else that I probably shouldn't disclose aloud. Back to Madge. The fortysomething wife-mother-Kabbalah worshipper released Confessions on a Dance Floor (SGN's Top 10 Albums/CDs, 2005) in November to strong reviews and overwhelming excitement from fans, resulting in sales beyond the one million mark. In other words, Lourdes can keep shopping for expensive shoes and Rocco can pre-order that Ferrari for his sixteenth birthday.
Tickets for Coachella are already on sale priced at $86 per day or $165 for both days. Camping information, hotel recommendations and a complete list of artists appearing at this year's festival is available at www.coachella.com. With Madonna added to the event, ugly straight chicks are no longer assured a free meal from the surplus of drunk, horny college boys in attendance. I suggest these little tarts sprinkle beauty dust on themselves before heading to the concert grounds on Sunday because a hot Gay boy outranking a pathetic-looking hetero girl has been done before. And when collegiate-aged meat is up for grabs, someone's going home hungry.
Win She Wants Revenge tickets
and cool stuff at Manray, March 7
Last week, I mentioned She Wants Revenge's upcoming show at Neumo's being completely sold out. It is, so I wasn't bullshitting. But I didn't mention that two pairs of tickets need good owners very soon. To make this happen, the Seattle Gay News is giving away the four tickets at "Alternative Tuesdays" on March 7 at Manray Video Bar (514 East Pine). Manray is a co-sponsor of this weekly club event, spinning music videos to Gay folks who dig artists like The Killers, We Are Scientists, Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes, Beck, The White Stripes, Green Day, Bjork and Radiohead, to name a few. Aside from the tickets, we'll also have a limited supply of She Wants Revenge goodies, plus we'll play the duo's videos, "Tear You Apart" and "These Things", throughout the night. Start time is 9:30 pm. Enjoy great Stoli cocktails and mingle with Gay boys and girls who love alternative bands every Tuesday night.
Solstice Sunglass Boutique,
loved by music's top artists,
opens in downtown Seattle
What do Kelly Clarkson, Maroon 5, John Legend, Destiny's Child, Chris Brown and Sugarland have in common? They've all been spotted wearing shades from Solstice Sunglass Boutique, a hip retail chain that enjoyed the spotlight at February's Grammy Awards and this year's Oscars. The company opens its very first Northwest location in downtown Seattle this weekend at Pacific Place Mall. You'll find shades by Marc Jacobs, Giorgio Armani, Valentino, Dior, Ralph Lauren, Gucci and other top designers, with prices starting at $75 and going up to $500. Personally, I can't afford such a luxury because I lose every pair of sunglasses I buy. But I'm seriously tempted to treat myself to a pair, if only because I've been on my best behavior for three weeks solid. Besides the aforementioned artists, Solstice has covered the eyes of Adrien Brody, Teri Hatcher, Ashton Holmes, Rosario Dawson and Miss Universe 2005 Natalie Glebova. Seattle Gay News is happy to welcome Solstice to our city. The store resides on the third level of the Pacific Place Mall.
American Idol slims down
to sixteen contestants
Will someone please put Paula Abdul on the next space shuttle launch? Seriously, please? And when you reach the Milky Way, drop her off. She is so fucking annoying! And she hits on every American Idol male contestant, including nerd numero uno Kevin Covais. She called him a "sex symbol". Huh? Maybe at Payless Shoe Source. But not on TV honey. The hottest guy on the show is Ace Young, who sang a so-so version of a Daniel Bedingfield tune this week. He asked the viewers if, by chance, we'd noticed a beanie hanging out the back pocket of his jeans, a good luck charm of sorts. Gosh Ace, I hadn't noticed the beanie because there was something more interesting to stare at. Your ass!
Will Makar, who could pass for John Mayer's younger brother, sang Kenny Roger's "Lady". It was bad, in a bad way. I still voted for him though. Cuteness was a factor. Chris Daughtry, a nice slice of beefcake from North Carolina, was awesome. He sang Fuel's "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" and sounded golden. And he looked bite-worthy, in a Vin Diesel kind of way. Taylor Hicks, an adorable jolly green giant-type, sang a soul-lite version of The Commodores' "Easy". Finally, Elliott Yamin nailed a slick rendition of "Moody's Mood for Love". As for the girls, I barely paid attention. But I adore Paris whatshername and Mandisa. The one I can't stand is Brenna Gethers, a total bitch and diva reject. Deadline at the Seattle Gay News came before the sixteen contestants were announced. This week, the amateur talent show takes a giant step forward in dwindling down the contestants to the elite twelve. I'm hooked baby.
