Interview with Mr. Nude Seattle 2005 - 2006 8th Annual Pageant on Monday, March 27th
Interview with Mr. Nude Seattle 2005 - 2006 8th Annual Pageant on Monday, March 27th
by David Luc Nguyen/ Teriyaki Temple - SGN Contributing Writer

Being Mr. Nude Seattle is far from what Richard wanted to be growing up. He always dreamed of leaving home and seeing distant places. "Ever since I was at a young age, I have always wanted to be a commercial pilot - traveling the world, where the sky is the limit and the opportunities are endless." Though the friendly skies aren't being flown by Richard now, life's not so bad being Mr. Nude Seattle. There are plenty of perks like being known for having one of the sexiest bodies in town, and there is never that awkward feeling of wondering how a new boyfriend will react to seeing you naked for the first time. Life wasn't always so "glamorous" for the 7th Mr. Nude Seattle. It was just over a year ago that Richard nervously strutted his stuff (in the buff) trying to impress the judges who would later crown him Mr. Nude Seattle vaulting him to "quasi-local celebrity status."

Winning the title of Mr. Nude Seattle wasn't an easy task. Most people would think the competition is all about how a person looks and what their packing. Unfortunately for the candidates they are judged on stricter criteria. Judges will look for performance quality, creativity in their talent, and how comfortable contestants are in the nude. I'm surprised there isn't another set of criteria for contestants such as girth, length and straightness. This year's judging panel is made up of community members and sponsors including Rplace, AMVC Video, MGW Magazine, The Wet Spot and The Elite Tavern. If the contestants are as anywhere as hot as previous years, the judges will have a hard decision to make (no pun intended).

Most people would agree that toughest part of the competition is their first presentation they have to get undressed. Mr. Nude Seattle took a moment to reflect on the competition last year. "I certainly was nervous, as should be expected of anyone who gets naked on stage for the first time. However, with the assistance from Nina Maxwell, last years Miss Gay Seattle XLI, my strip tease was choreographed, taking away some of the anxiety during the performance. The couple shots before the show helped too!"

Now you're probably thinking to yourself, no one in their right mind would want to put themselves out there like that unless they were completely self-diluted, desperate for money, or an exhibitionist. I believe there is some truth to the reason previously listed but there are some reasons that aren't so obvious to the general public.

What most people don't know is that Mr. Nude Seattle does a lot of good work in the community. That's why Richard decided to run for the title in the first place. "I decided to run for Mr. Nude Seattle because I felt it was a way in which I could give something back to the community. The proceeds from this year's event will go to Dine-Out for Life, a non-profit organization. Originally when approached about being a possible candidate Richard was reluctant and said "He'd have to think about it." His boyfriend's immediate response was "Hell No!" However, with a little co-erosion, two months before the event Richard and his boyfriend Mark worked things out clearing the way for him to compete in the competition.

"It's hard to believe it has already been a year already" reflects Richard as he discusses his plans for his week as Mr. Nude Seattle. When asked what his most memorable moment of the year was he remembered the day that he won his title. "I'd have to say the fondest moment was at time of judgment. It was down to the wire and I ended up in a tie with Eric. It was even more exhilarating to listen to the audience cheer for me when it came down to audience participation to decide on the winner. At that moment, I knew that all my hard work was successful and I won the title of Mr. Nude Seattle 2005 - 2006."

When Richard won his title last year he also won $500.00 in which can't really remember what he spent it all on but its good to know that he has made many friends, memories and fans this year, all of which are priceless. Richard will be creating more memories as he does one last farewell performance as Mr. Nude Seattle and passes along his sash to the next exhibitionist, I mean, Mr. Nude Seattle.
