| Mark your calendar! You are invited to attend the 2006 BUZZ CUTS, BOOT BLACK, AND BBQ fundraisers, on the 1st Saturday of each month from April - September, afternoons at The Seattle Eagle. Proceeds from the event will continue the endowment of the Tony DeBlase scholarship under the umbrella of The Pride Foundation.
The buzz cutter will be the famous Patrick Bear, Gregory LaRouxe will be our bootblack, and Corey Krantz will be the cook. The menu will have something for everyone: a buzz cut for $15 (or a "deluxe" for $25), quick boot shine $5, traditional boot blacking $10, and deluxe boot blacking $20. We'll also have the more traditional BBQ offerings, of course: hot dogs $2, hamburgers $2, vegi-burgers $2, chili with cheese & chopped green onions, $5. A new item on the agenda is the showing of a movie at each fundraiser. These are all FREE and viewer discretion is advised. On the list are: o The Passion of Joan of Arc, a silent film about the 1431 heresy trial, burning at the stake and subsequent martyrdom. o Siren of The Tropics (silent), starring the beautiful, Bisexual, amazing Josephine Baker o A 1919 silent movie called Different From The Others o The Einstein Of Sex that was made in 2000 with English subtitles o The martyrdom of the Catholic saint Sebastiane (performed entirely in Latin with English subtitles) o Kinsey (2004, English subtitles). These movies are all enjoyable but also meant to give more information on what sex education means. Silent and subtitled films have been chosen so that the deaf and the hearing impaired are able to enjoy them as well. Many people have come to understand more about the scholarship project, and to be involved with it. We are especially grateful to "Seattle's Favorite Plumber", Big Jim, who will be matching the donations brought in at April's event, and to The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence from The Abby of St. Joan, who have graciously agreed to be present at the BBQ to bless hot wieners for a $5 donation. If you cannot attend, you can still participate in the new project by being a "field mouse" - an idea based on the book The Wizard of Oz. The field mice were small but effective. They did not have much strength individually but as an army, they were very powerful. A small donation of $5 may not seem like much to you, but as part of a larger campaign, it can have mighty results!
