August 1st was the celebration date for national "Night Out", a coming together of neighbors at block parties to get acquainted and help create a more safe and friendly neighborhood environments.
Here are pictures Seattle's Capitol Hill, the site of one of many successful block parties. Participants were treated to a surprise visit from the well-wishing Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowski and his wife.
The block party on E. Republican St., between 15th E. and E. Malden, was organized by Ray Angel of Angel's Shoe Repair (1465 E. Republican St, Seattle). About 150 neighbors enjoyed the music and food, which was provided by merchants from the 15th Ave E. business district.
