Albert Hammond Jr. (of The Strokes) goes one-on-one with SGN next week
My first favorite album of 2007 is Yours to Keep, the debut solo effort by Albert Hammond Jr. And before you jump into any conclusions, know that he intends to keep his day job as guitarist for super rock group The Strokes. Hammond Jr. barely returned from a trip to Europe last week when I spoke to him direct from a Brooklyn rehearsal studio. What's he rehearsing for? A five-week tour with Incubus, which includes a January 6 performance at Seattle's Paramount Theatre. Hammond Jr. may actually spend a day rehearsing in Seattle before the tour kicks off January 5 in Vancouver, BC. Yours to Keep is already receiving strong buzz overseas, where it came out in early December. Stateside, it's scheduled for a March 13 release. The CD is a great listen, primarily the tracks "Everyone Gets a Star", "Bright Young Thing", and "In Transit". Grab a copy of the Seattle Gay News next week and hang out with Albert Hammond Jr. inside "The Music Lounge". Meanwhile, ear-sample his music at www.myspace.com/alberthammondjr.

Joshua Radin playing The Triple Door in February, on Carson Daly this month
I've had my eye on him since last May, back when he was just a pup in the music biz. He's practically a big boy now, and I'm very happy to report that awesome things are happening in the world of Joshua Radin. The singer-songwriter, whose album We Were Here made the list of SGN's Top Ten Albums/CDs of 2006, is starting the New Year on a busy note. He's booked to appear on Last Call with Carson Daly on January 15, featured in the upcoming film soundtrack to Catch & Release, and he's confirmed a batch of concert dates for late winter, including a return to Seattle on February 13 at The Triple Door, with special guest Schuyler Fisk. If you're a fan of Simon and Garfunkel, Elliott Smith, Damien Rice, or Howie Day, then you'll have no problem warming up to Joshua Radin. His music is on the quiet side, so the intimacy of The Triple Door will be heaven to folk-pop gems like "Winter", "Star Mile", "These Photographs", and "Closer" (SGN's Top 25 Singles/Tracks, 2006). Tickets, priced at $15, can be purchased online at www.thetripledoor.net or by phone (206) 838-4331. Ear-sample Radin's music at www.joshuaradin.com. And if you happen to own the movie Garden State, look for a cameo of Radin in the house party scene near the beginning.
