Ideas to make 'V' day that are fun, erotic or just plain memorable
Ideas to make 'V' day that are fun, erotic or just plain memorable
by Rajkhet Dirzhud-Rashid - SGN A&E Writer

Okay, you people out there who keep pooh poohing the idea of a day celebrating love (and lust, because let's face it, lust is what most of us are really celebrating), get over yourselves. Whether you have a sweetie and have been partnered for years or have recently suffered a devastating break-up or are ready to 'get back on the horse', as it were; there are things you can do besides sit around, bitch and moan and make others around you miserable. No one likes misery darling, trust me.

So, what to do? Well, for starters, if you're looking for love, (or lust), and are having no luck, try putting an ad on Craigslist. I did a while back and I'm still getting replies and, no, they haven't been toads either. Or, if you're not ready for anything that brave, try taking yourself and some friends out to a new place to dance and mingle. I know The Vogue now has a new location in the environs of the Capitol Hill Arts Center. A lots of folks hang out there, besides 'goths', and there's also a few other spots to at least 'people watch', including that new wi-fi place that'll give you free internet access if you buy a drink. Nice folks, lots of computers and who said you have to just sit there. Take a friend, have something to drink and just enjoy the ambiance. Or hey, go online and put an ad in for next year's 'V' day. You never know!

Then there is other stuff to treat yourself or a sweetie too. Go to Banya5 Russian Spa, and check out their Valentine's Day specials, which you can find out about by going to www.Banya5.org, either with a sweetie or with a group of friends. You'll enjoy the service and the feeling of luxury the place exudes. There's also TUBS in the U-District (a friend gave me three passes for my birthday and I'm dying to check it out!), which has private rooms and I'm sure has Valentine's specials too. Or, have a massage, pedicure, manicure or facial at Salon Dewi (located on 14th Ave., near Pine. And there's that new salon, Swoon, which is also on Pine, near the wi-fi place I mentioned. Treat yourself, or a friend, or sweetie, or maybe just get a makeover and go out clubbing. My friend, who lives in Federal Way says Tacoma's Loft is a good place to dance and is filled with military types. So, if you like them in uniform (like yours truly here, does), that's another option.

And if you're really adventurous, pick up some treats from Tarragon (near the SGN offices), pack a romantic dinner and travel out of town, sit in the car (if it's raining), put on the CD 'Roderigo y Gabriela' and enjoy. Or, you can stay home with your love or with a friend, make them dinner, watch movies, eat chocolate and reminisce about past good times and future ones to come. A great way to comfort a newly broken heart is with someone you've known and who's cared for you for years. You can also send 'secret Valentine's' to someone you've had a crush on, but weren't brave enough to speak to -- but no stalking, okay -- or adopt a pet from the Humane Society, and experience a love that lasts forever, and that probably won't ever break your heart.

Whatever you do, don't just sit there bitching, get out there, buy yourself some flowers (the Northwest Flower and Garden Show's set to be in town that week), open a bottle of something sparkling and maybe have a 'date' with yourself, or a couple of friends. After all, Hallmark didn't invent love and one day surely isn't enough to celebrate all of the ways we can express the most beautiful of emotions either.
