In the Life presents 'Leading Ladies' with guest host Martina Navratilova
NEW YORK - February 13, 2007 - Public television¹s national Gay and Lesbian newsmagazine In the Life celebrates Women¹s History Month in March and spotlights the lives and accomplishments of several extraordinary women.

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova hosts episode 1606: "Leading Ladies."

This March, In the Life visits the Lesbian Herstory Archives in Brooklyn, New York. Tucked away in an old brownstone is a rare collection of almost-forgotten Lesbian histories, where for the past 32 years volunteer caretakers have gathered rich and colorful stories that celebrate the diverse Lesbian community.

The stark, icy landscape of Antarctica has captured the imagination of explorers for hundreds of years. In "Polar Pioneers" viewers are introduced to Ann Bancroft and Liv Arnesen-two remarkable women-who shatter the notion that women are too fragile to endure polar exploration.

The first TV series to feature the stories of Lesbian lives, "The L Word" broke new ground and immediately developed a diverse audience when it premiered in January 2004. Two years ago In the Life went behind the scenes to speak with its creator and the talented cast.

In the Life goes global this month with "Sehakia," interviewing four Lesbians of the Muslim faith who struggle to understand the contradictions between their sexuality and their religion.

Finally, In the Life profiles innovative cartoonist Alison Bechdel who, inspired by her own experiences as a Lesbian, has created a gallery of authentic and unforgettable characters by letting her imagination run wild.

In the Life airs its March episode, "Leading Ladies," in Seattle on Monday, April 2nd at 12:00 a.m. on KCTS-Channel 9. For national airdate listings outside of Seattle, or to download episodes of In the Life, please visit for more information. "Leading Ladies" is available to download on Tuesday, March 27.
