Camp Ten Trees gives supporters a 'campy' evening to remember
Camp Ten Trees gives supporters a 'campy' evening to remember
Though nary a camper-filled canoe was to be found, the energy and excitement of camp itself was the hallmark of the 6th Annual Dinner and Auction benefiting Camp Ten Trees.

On the evening of Saturday, April 7, 2007, over 270 guests filled The Armory (Naval Reserve Building) at South Lake Union for An Evening to Remember, a fun-filled and camp-themed opportunity to raise funds for the Pacific Northwest's only camp for LGBTQA youth and children of LGBTQ parents. This summer, Camp Ten Trees will mark its seventh season of providing opportunities for LGBTQ youth, family, and allies through traditional camp programming, made possible by the over $60,000 raised at this month's annual dinner and auction.

An Evening to Remember delighted attendees by immersing them in the very camp experience they'd come to support. Upon arrival, guests cruised to "The Waterfront" for drinks and then dropped by "Arts & Crafts" to pose with friends for a photo magnet. While browsing an amazing array of silent auction items -including art, books, event packages, and more- they were treated to a slide show of special moments of recent years at Camp Ten Trees. The lively and interactive night continued through dinner where guests reunited with old buddies and made new friends over a family style meal of rustic lasagna and Caesar salad, topped off with tree-decorated cupcakes from Cupcake Royale. Tables got a treat for the evening's "Campfire" entertainment as Camp Ten Trees campers and volunteer staff took guests further into the camp experience by honoring recent staff efforts, sharing camp songs, and even performing "a week at camp" in under three minutes!

The "Campfire" burned strong through the night as attendees raised their paddles high during the live auction, called by David Silverman, an auctioneer with the agency The Actors Group. Supporters showed their love for Camp Ten Trees through fierce competition for over twenty-two fabulous prize packages including lunch with State Representative Jamie Pedersen, commissioned art by local artist Michelle Salazar, Orcas Island getaways, and a "Discover Columbia City" night of treats in one of Seattle's own neighborhoods. In addition to contributions raised through excited bidding over such items, the "Fund A Need" portion of the silent auction, during which guests pledged outright donations toward sponsoring campers, raised nearly $13,000 of the grand total.

"It was such an amazing night," said Meredith Stone, a member of the CTT Advisory Committee. "Everyone knew the night was about raising funds, and people really had a great time doing it! So many came who were new to Camp Ten Trees, wanting to find out more. We've received many enthusiastic e-mails and calls from people who thoroughly enjoyed themselves and want to make sure they get on our mailing list and/or learn more about getting involved with Camp. Experiences like that, along with nearly doubling the total funds raised at last year's auction, show that this was a truly successful event."

It's not too late to get in on the action of supporting Camp Ten Trees. Head down to Comedy Underground at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1st for a benefit show hosted by Non-Profit Comedy. Tickets are available at the door for $12 and half of the proceeds will be donated directly to Camp Ten Trees. The show is open to all ages; however, please be aware that Comedy Underground is a free speech zone. Lear more about the event at www.nonprofitcomedy.com/seattle.
