More than 350 Bears converged on Seattle last weekend for the Northwest Bears thirteenth annual Spring Thaw.
The beautiful weather was matched by a friendly, fuzzy collection of brauny, hunky and, sometimes, chunky Bears. These Bears came in all shapes and sizes, from across the USA and Europe. They arrived ready to play and ready to honor the tradition of supporting a designated charity.
"This year we are proud to sponsor Bailey-Boushay House, America's first skilled residential nursing facility that was planned, funded, built and staffed to meet the needs of people living with AIDS," commented Jim Fotter, Northwest Bears' 2007 President.
Established in 1992, the Bailey-Boushay House has evolved as medications have improved since '92 and people are living with the disease longer. Today, Bailey-Boushay House provides much needed services to meet the complex physical, mental and spiritual needs of people living and dying with HIV/AIDS through its Adult Day Health and Residential Care Programs.
"I'd like to thank our 'Gold Sponsor' Bud Light, for its continued support for the GLBT community," noted Fotter.
The weekend started Thursday night, with a Pizza Buffet at Piecora's Pizza, followed by a great kick-off party at C.C. Attle's. The fun continued with a Beareoke night of sometimes fractured, always fabulous singing at The Cuff.
Friday afternoon started with a Seattle Underground Tour, a Vendor Maul where everything-Bear was on sale at reasonable prices. Late afternoon saw the Bear-Romp, a special party at Club Z. Friday night offered a Movie Bear screening of Hot Fuzz, and an Underbear Party at The Seattle Eagle.
Saturday started with a lunchtime cruise on Puget Sound, hosted by Patrick Baker, Mr. Northwest Bear 2007, and A.J .Marcacci, Mr. Northwest Cub 2007, and featured a charity raffle and continued with a Bear Patrol party at Club Seattle. The Saturday Night Banquet featured one of the main charity events, the "Beard, Belly and Buns" contest. The Banquet was followed by the "Furnace Dance Party" at The Cuff.
The Northwest Bears thought of everything to make the weekend hassle-free and relaxed, even private bus service between the host hotel and the various party scenes on Friday and Saturday night.
Sunday featured a special breakfast and Silent Auction to benefit the sponsored charity, Bailey-Boushay House. An afternoon Come and Go Party was held at Basic Plumbing, and Farewell Cocktails were offered at C.C. Attles.
According to Jim Fotter, $5,500.00 was collected for Bailey-Boushay House.
On May 2nd, the Northwest Bears will sponsor The Confessions of a Prairie Bitch Alison Arngrim, who played Nellie Olsen on The Little House on the Prairie at The Cuff. Proceeds will be donated to Bailey-Boushay House.
