| Super 8 remains simple and straightforward place to stay in New York City |

The Super 8 Hotel at 59 W. 46th St, between 5th and 6th Avenues, in midtown Manhattan, remains a reliable, economical and convenient place to stay on a visit to New York City. It has extremely comfortable king- sized beds and the rooms and bathrooms are modern and maintained with cleanliness. It is a simple and straightforward place to stay. It is quiet at night, inexpensive and right in the middle of everything.
The hotel is within short walking distance of the Museum of Modern Art, Broadway theaters and Times Square, jazz and cabaret clubs, such as Birdland, Iridium and Don't Tell Mama's, "Restaurant Row", Grand Central Station, the wholesale diamond and gemstone district, Town Hall, City Center, Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral and a great shopping destination at 5th Ave. retailers including: Saks', Tiffany's, Bergdorf Goodman, Henri Bendel, Harry Winston and the exciting, new Apple Computer store, underground, with the wonderful glass cube on top of it at street level.
I stayed at the Super 8 during the Association of Performing Arts Presenters Conference, just a 5 minute walk away at the Hilton Hotel. The Super 8 is very close to public transportation including east and west side subways and buses and if you don't mind a little bit more of a walk, you can easily walk to Carnegie Hall, Central Park, the Time Warner Center, (where you can find a great Whole Foods market) and Lincoln Center, where you can attend a myriad of performances including events at the Metropolitan and New York City Operas, the New York Philharmonic, the New York City Ballet, Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society, plays at the Vivian Beaumont Theater and jazz at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola.
The hotel offers an included continental breakfast daily from 7-10 AM of bagels and cream cheese, donuts, bananas, apples, orange juice, instant oatmeal, self-serve toast with jam and an instant cappuccino machine. Complimentary copies of U.S.A. Today are available in the breakfast room and two TV's are on playing the news and weather. There is a computer room where access to the internet is complimentary for guests.
There are a number of other complimentary amenities. It is important to note that internet service in your room is not complimentary and actually is shockingly expensive as are video rentals. There is a workout room and safes for your valuables. I have found the house cleaning people to be honest, friendly and fastidious in their work.
The hotel offers non-smoking rooms and the clientele seems to be mostly Europeans and other foreign tourists who are looking for affordable places to stay in N.Y.C. and have heard about the Super 8 and its economical prices by word of mouth or on the internet. The hotel's rates start at $109.00 a night including continental breakfast.
