Blue Sox clinch World Series berth in Emerald City Softball play
Blue Sox clinch World Series berth in Emerald City Softball play
by Nick Bowen - SGN Contributing Writer

The Blue Sox came off a lackluster performance in the ECC last weekend to go 2 - 0 on Sunday including a win against the 2nd Place Alley Cats. The two victories allowed them to secure the ECSA Open 'C' Division Championship for 2007 and allowed them to be the first ECSA Team to earn a berth in the 2007 NAGAAA World Series in Phoenix this October.

The Blue Sox were led by Brant L. who went 8 for 8 in the Blue Sox two games on Sunday with 4 singles, 1 double and 3 triples. Andy F. of the Blue Sox had an impressive day as well going 3 for 4 in the game against the Alley Cats with an incredible catch on a short fly in shallow right field for the Alley Cats 2nd out in the bottom of the last inning.

In the Open 'B' Division the Arsenal also went 2-0 for the day. This included their first win in 2 seasons against the Shock and a win against the Sting. The wins on Sunday pulled them to within one game of the Division leaders Shock & the Pilots. The 'B' Division has been hotly contested all season and with two weeks left in the regular season the top three teams are separated by a single game.

The Open 'D" division upset of the week had the surging Wolves fresh off an outstanding performance in the ECC facing off against the 9-2 Pirates. In a close game, the Wolves edged the Pirates by a final score of 12 to 11, moving the Wolves from 9th to 6th place in the standings. Gerry B. led the Pirates with a great effort from the pitchers mound as well as great hitting to keep things close. Dan H. of the Wolves had some great plays at 3rd for the Wolves to keep the Pirates in check. The Rockets continued their winning ways taking both their games this weekend to improve to 13-0 staying unbeaten, with a chance to win the division and lock up a World Series berth of their own this coming weekend.
