SEATTLE, WA, September 20, 2007 - The steering committee of the Seattle Metropolitan Elections Committee (SEAMEC) voted Wednesday to endorse Seattle City Councilman David Della for re-election. Della was recognized for his significant contributions on behalf of Seattle's Gay, Lesbian, and Trans communities both before and after he became a Seattle City Councilman. Della has been a consistent supporter of city and state legislation that prohibits discrimination against the community. In addition, as executive director of the Governor's Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs, he worked against homophobia within his own community. SEAMEC endorsements are typically presented to candidates that have "a distinguished history of activism on behalf of the GLBT community," says SEAMEC Co-chair, Barbara Sehr, "David Della clearly has such a record." Della joins two other members of the City Council that have received SEAMEC endorsements in the November election, Tom Rasmussen, and Sally Clark. In addition to the City Council members, SEAMEC has also endorsed King County Assessor Scott Noble, and incumbent King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg. More endorsements for the November election will be announced in early October. The Seattle Metropolitan Elections Committee was established in 1977 to interview and rate candidates based on their positions affecting the GLBT community. The non-profit organization is operated almost entirely by volunteer interviewers and administrators. Candidates are rated based on their answers to a standard questionnaire. Volunteers and contributors should contact SEAMEC through its Web site at http://www.seamec.org or by telephone at (206) 860-7583. |
