Inlaws & Outlaws, a film by local filmmaker Drew Emery, is now available on DVD. A large crowd of the film's supporters attended a DVD Release Party at Kurrent, a bar and restaurant on Capitol Hill in Seattle, on Tuesday, September 18, to mark the occasion. The film weaves together the true stories of couples and singles-both gay and straight-into a collective narrative that is as hilarious as it is heartbreaking.
"Finally, the film is available for public consumption where anyone can take it and do with it what they want," Emery told the Seattle Gay News on Tuesday. "There have been a lot of people who have wanted this for a long time and we finally have it available. It is so exciting for us because it has been a very long road to get here."
Jason Plourde, programming director for Three Dollar Bill Cinema, the producer's of the Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and the fiscal agent for the films distribution and public education arm, said the film has enjoyed great success at screenings and festival nationwide. "It has played amazing well," he said. This film goes to festivals and fills the theater.... I have heard nothing but positive feedback from the festivals where it has played.
"People really want to see something on this issue. It's such a unique take. It is not a documentary that deals directly with Gay marriage, but allows couples to tell their stories about relationships and about marriage in a way that many people can relate to."
The Greater Seattle Business Association (GSBA), the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and allied chamber of commerce, also heavily supported the film. "How exciting that we have a DVD from someone in our community that is going to be nationally distributed," said GSBA Executive Director Louse Chernin. "I love the film. I love the impact that it has; the ability to both entertain and get people to think openly about their beliefs."
The DVD is available for purchase online at www.inlawsandoutlawsfilm.com. The DVD retails for $24.95 and features several bonus items, including deleted scenes, a photographic slideshow, and two additional short films.
