A community rally for a Transgender-inclusive Federal Employment
Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) was held on Sunday, October 14. People
packed into the Seattle LGBT Community Center to hear from local
Transgender and allied leaders who urged for the passage of an inclusive
ENDA bill, which would provide workplace protections for LGBT
people.
A version of the legislation passed out of a U.S. House committee
on Thursday does not include protections for Transgender and other
gender non-conforming people. Equal Rights Washington Executive
Director Connie Watts, Ingersoll Gender Center Founder Marsha Botzer,
Seattle LGBT Community Center Board Co-President Breanna Anderson,
SEAMEC Co-Chair Barbara Sehr, NGLTF Board Member Jody Laine,
and LGBT activist Bill Dubay addressed the crowd. State Senators Ed
Murray (D-43rd) and Joe McDermott (D-34th) also spoke. |
