AIDS Housing of Washington the non-profit group that built Bailey-Boushay House 15 years ago is transferring ownership of the building to the facilitys longtime operator, Virginia Mason Medical Center. The change in ownership is designed to ensure a sustainable future for Bailey-Boushay House, a nationally recognized facility offering residential care and day health programs for people living with AIDS. The ownership transfer is being announced in conjunction with World AIDS Day,
December 1. The story of Bailey-Boushay House has always been about a committed community stepping up to care for people with AIDS, said Brian Knowles, executive director, Bailey-Boushay House. This is another milestone in that great legacy. AIDS Housing of Washington, which recently adopted the name Building Changes, will retain an advisory seat on the Bailey-Boushay House board of directors. The change in building ownership will not affect programs or services offered to the 235 people who depend on Bailey-Boushay House daily for their care. Gary S. Kaplan, MD, chairman and CEO, Virginia Mason, and Betsy Lieberman, executive director, Building Changes, worked with Knowles in coming up with the building-transfer plan. The three leaders determined it was the most cost-efficient way for the non-profit organizations to ensure Bailey-Boushays future as a provider of life-changing care for people living with AIDS. Bailey-Boushay belongs to the community, Dr. Kaplan said. It is our privilege to operate it. Without the visionary work of Building Changes, we could not have provided this high level of care. Lieberman added, Virginia Mason and the Bailey-Boushay staff have done a phenomenal job of stewarding our vision for the facility. An event is planned to celebrate 15 years of collaboration and compassion in action for people living with AIDS on World AIDS Day, Saturday, December 1, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Museum of History and Industry, 2700 24th Avenue East, Seattle. The event will include the premiere of the Bailey-Boushay House Living History Video.
