| Student Design Teams Trim Trees for Charity |
Nine innovative and wildly creative student design teams were selected November 21 to participate in an annual tree trimming project to benefit Northwest families challenged by HIV and AIDS. The collaboration of Rise 'n' Shine and Seattle Design Center brings together interior design students from across the Northwest. The Holiday Tree Design Challenge piqued the interest of students from the Art Institute of Seattle, Seattle Pacific University, Bellevue Community College, and the International Academy of Design and Technology.
Student teams, comprised of two to four students, proposed their best, kid-friendly, heartwarming Christmas tree themes in a variety of categories. Each participating team receives a $200 decorating fund and a seven foot, pre-lit evergreen tree donated by Hines, owner of the SDC.
On December 1, the student designers will gather to trim their trees from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the SDC (5701 6th Ave S, suite 378). The finished trees will then be displayed from December 3 through 12 before being donated to families in the Rise 'n' Shine program. Visitors are encouraged to vote on their favorite designs, as the top two design teams will be awarded prizes at the conclusion of the display.
