| QArts ends year with silent auction |
|
|
December is a month of celebration and reflection. To honor a year's worth of fantastic art from the many talented LGBTQ artists and their allies, QArts, the arts committee of the Seattle LGBT Community Center, is presenting "Qarts Greatest Hits: 2007!" as its final show of the year. Nearly 20 artists and QArts volunteers will showcase new works of art in the gallery beginning December 3 and running through the end of the month. An opening reception honoring the artists and their work will be held Saturday, December 8 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Center at 1115 E Pike Street on Capitol Hill. The event is open to the public, and admission is free. Complimentary drinks and snacks will be served, and donations are always gratefully accepted.
In addition, many of the works on display this month will be featured in a Silent Auction to help benefit QArts. The public is invited to visit the Gallery at the Center during regular business hours (dependent on volunteer staffing and vacancy of the space) and anonymously bid for pieces. Starting bid prices will vary, with many pieces priced for the budget shopper. (Original art makes a great gift, either for loved ones or just to brighten up your own home during the gloomy winter months.) Proceeds from the auction of each piece will be split 50-50 between QArts and the artist in an effort to help the artist recoup the cost of producing the piece.
For the first time, the public will be able to view and bid on the art on a website. Beginning December 4, the auction pieces will be viewable at http://qartsseattle.blogspot.com/ . Interested bidders must e-mail their contact info and bid to the address and once a day the high bid information will be updated on the website, as well as at the Center. All bidders will remain anonymous and will be given a coded username to mask their identity and to ensure confidentiality. The auction will end Saturday, December 22 and the high bidders will be able to pick up and pay for their pieces before Christmas if desired. For more info on the show or auction, please contact QArts at qarts@seattlelgbt.org.
Some of the artists scheduled to participate in the show are Amy Abadilla, Michelle Salazar, Eric Gregory, Thomas Wurst, Lara Muffley, David Johansson, Jyot Singh, Julie Luke, Quatre, Neelu Bhuman, Emily Stout, Strangeways, and many more. Please join us this month in celebrating their work and the work of the other artists and volunteers of QArts.
The Seattle LGBT Community Center is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Operating hours are dependent on volunteer staffing. For further information on The Center's programs, to volunteer or make a donation or to just ask a question about area LGBTQ programs and services, contact The Center at 206-323-5428, or visit the website at www.seattlelgbt.org and contact us via email at info@seattlelgbt.org or just stop by!
