Saludos y Feliz Año Nuevo! Con este ensayo re-introducimos un articulo contribuido al Seattle Gay News por Entre Hermanos, su agencia de servicio a la comunidad Latina LGBT de Seattle y King County. El Seattle Gay News es un recurso tremendo para la comunidad de Seattle, y estamos honrados de poder compartir nuestra perspectiva en estas páginas. Esto es una vista al mundo Latino LGBT. Una de las realidades de nuestro mundo es que existen aun las divisiones sociales basadas en la etnia y clase social, y por eso no siempre nos damos a conocer entre vecinos. Ojalá estos artículos ayuden a crear un enlace entre nuestras comunidades LGBT. Nos interesa unirnos para el beneficio de todos. Ahora voy a compartir con ustedes un resumen de los programas que ofrece Entre Hermanos. Nuestro propósito es promover la salud y el bienestar de la comunidad Latina LGBT de Seattle y King County, a través de programas de educación y alcance. Estos son: Atrévete: Programa de prevención en VIH/SIDA y Enfermedades de Transmisión Sexual, dirigida a Hombres Latinos del Condado de King que tienen sexo con otros hombres. Este programa incluye Somos, grupo de apoyo emocional para personas afectadas de cualquier manera por el VIH. Mujeres Diversas: Nuestro esfuerzo de apoyo a la comunidad Lesbiana Latina. Nos juntamos para compartir nuestros anhelos y emociones, y también para convivir y celebrar. Programa Anti-tabaco: Seguimos con nuestros esfuerzos ayudando a nuestra comunidad quitarse de la maldita adicción del tabaco. Esto lo hacemos a través de nuestras publicaciones, en la radio, y también cuando podemos platicar con nuestro público individualmente. Entérate: Nuestro programa de radio, una fuente de información sobre temas de salud, cuestiones de la vida LGBT y otros temas sugeridos por nuestro auditorio. Se escucha cada domingo a las 2 p.m. en el 1540 AM. Jóvenes en Movimiento: Vamos a desarrollar un grupo para personas jóvenes, que incluya reuniones sociales, discusiones, y actividades entretenidas. Noches Latinas: Todos los Domingos de 10:00 p.m. a 2:00 p.m. en el bar Neighbours en 1509 Broadway, Seattle. Salsa, Merengue, Música pop y rock en español. También incluye el show entretenido con La Gorda y sus amigas. Certamen Latino: El evento más esperado del año. Un espectáculo para seleccionar a Miss Gay, Mr. Gay y también a la Lesbiana Latina. Seattle Gay Pride: Participamos en el desfile Gay Pride de Seattle, y también en otros eventos de Gay Pride. Lo hacemos para levantar el perfil de la comunidad Latina LGBT, para celebrar nuestra Hermosa cultura, y para divertirnos en grande. Seattle Gay News: Artículo en español que informa sobre lo que está pasando en nuestra comunidad. Introduccion Gratuita al Yoga: ¿Tienes curiosidad sobre el yoga? Sesiones gratuitas, guiadas por Angélica Murga. Se llevan a cabo todos los Martes en las oficinas de Entre Hermanos desde las 6:00 p.m. hasta las 7:15 p.m. Recomendado pero no obligatorio: Agua embotellada y una pequeña toalla. With this article we're introducing a regular feature in the Seattle Gay News: a periodic report from Entre Hermanos, your Latino LGBT organization serving the Queer Latino community of Seattle and King County. The Seattle Gay News is an incredible resource and asset for the Seattle community, and we're thrilled at the opportunity to share our perspective in these pages. Consider this a window into the Latino LGBT world. The sad reality is that we live in a world still divided by race and class, and we don't often mix with some of our closest neighbors. So, hopefully, this newspaper column will help to build some bridges between our worlds. We welcome the opportunity to reach out and hopefully touch someone in a good way. Today I'm going to take this opportunity to let you know about the programs we offer at Entre Hermanos. Our mission is to promote the health and well-being of the Latino LGBTQ community, through community outreach and a variety of programs. Here are some of them: Atrévete: Is our HIV/AIDS/STD prevention and education program targeting men who have sex with men. Included in this program is Somos (We Are), a discussion and support group for Latinos affected in any way by HIV. Diverse Women: This program offers support and a space for the Latina Lesbian community. We have get-togethers for socializing and sharing our hopes and dreams. Anti-tobacco campaign: We continue our efforts to help our community quit this ugly addiction. We accomplish this by sharing messages about the effects of tobacco through our radio program, newsletter and through one-on-one outreach. Entérate: Our weekly radio program is an excellent source of information about health issues and anything pertaining to the Latino LGBT community. The show is in Spanish, and you can tune in every Sunday at 2 p.m., on 1540 AM. Latino Pageant: The most exciting and anticipated event of the year; a spectacular that culminates in the selection of Miss Gay, Ms. Gay and Mr. Gay. Noches Latinas: Every Sunday night, from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. at Neighbours, located at 1509 Broadway in Seattle. A great chance to unwind, meet new friends and dance! Salsa, Merengue, pop and rock. There's also a fabulous show on the first and third Sundays, hosted by La Gorda and her friends. Youth in Movement: We're developing a group for Latino LGBT youth, to include social gatherings, discussion groups and entertaining activities. Seattle Gay Pride: We participate in the Seattle Gay Pride parade and other Pride events, to raise the profile of the Latino LGBT community, celebrate our wonderful culture and have a great time. Seattle Gay News: An informative article in Spanish and English, published twice a month. Free Introduction to Yoga: Are you curious about yoga? Free sessions, led by Angelica Murga, are held every Tuesday at the Entre Hermanos offices from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Recommended but not required: Bottled water and a small towel.
