You know those Valentine's lovebird specials at restaurants all over town? They're only for straight people. "I wouldn't feel comfortable going to a romantic dinner," said Rick Stevens, 46. "It would feel awkward and inappropriate."
Outside of bars and a few Capitol Hill nightspots, Seattle boasts few locales where holding hands across the table with someone of the same sex is comfortable.
This year Gay couples can dance cheek to cheek at "Love Without Boundaries," a new event benefiting Rosehedge AIDS Housing and Health Care. The Shilshole Bay Beach Club will feature a gourmet dinner, champagne and hors d'oeuvres, and a live jazz combo. Hand-holding is encouraged. Thursday, February 14, at 6:00 p.m. at the Shilshole Bay Beach Club (6413 Seaview Ave. NW).
"Local restaurants just weren't offering enough to the Gay community," said Chris Marx, Executive Director of Rosehedge. "Valentine's Day is about love & why should that be limited? Everyone is welcome at Love Without Boundaries - Gay, Lesbian, straight, Bi, Transgendered. Love is for everyone."
