Three Dollar Bill Cinema and Gay City Health Project hosted their third annual Oscar party, "Night with the Stars," on Sunday, February 24. The event began at 4:30 p.m. high atop Seattle's Renaissance Hotel. It was one of their smaller fundraising efforts, but is a natural way to partner on a project. "We're always thrilled to partner with Three Dollar Bill Cinema," Fred Swanson, Executive Director at Gay City, reports. "Our two organizations really know how to throw a fun party!" Three Dollar Bill Cinema's Executive Director, Rachael Brister, agrees. "This year we took the event to a whole new level. The Renaissance Hotel was a perfect venue, with amazing views of the city."

A festive atmosphere was set with several bigscreen televisions broadcasting the pre-show red carpet events and hors d'oeuvres of blackened potatoes and chicken empanadas. The real, serious business of picking Oscar favorites got started when Jon Stewart started emceeing. Ballots were given out and some people had contests for how many awards they got right. Drawings were held for packages of cinema tickets and DVDs, which added to the anticipation. All proceeds from Night with the Stars will benefit the programs and services offered by Gay City and Three Dollar Bill Cinema. Gay City Health Project is a multicultural gay men's health organization and the premiere provider of HIV and STD testing in King County. Three Dollar Bill Cinema produces the Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and other events like the Seattle Black Pride Film Festival.
