Gay Softball World Series raises nearly $9,000
|
During the month of May, several bars in the Seattle/Kent area participated in a "Supportin' Woody" fundraiser to help raise funds for the Gay Softball World Series, to be held here in Seattle August 22-30. Thirteen bars participated, including 88 Keys, CC'Attle's, Changes, Crescent, Eagle, Elite, Martin's, Neighbours, Purr, R Place, Swank, The Cuff Complex, and Vibe! Bartenders were selling Woodys for $1 (or more), with all money raised going to the Softball World Series Fundraising Committee. It will cost over $100,000 to bring the World Series here, and this fundraiser helped a lot!
With the support of the bars, the fundraiser raised almost $9,000 for the World Series. As you may have known, the bars and bartenders were also competing for prizes, as well. The fundraiser/contest was tight right through the last night. Here are the results:
Top-raising bar: R PLACE BAR AND GRILL ($1,466); runner up: PURR COCKTAIL LOUNGE ($1,441) - a difference of only $25!
1st place bartender: GREG SHEAFFER, PURR COCKTAIL LOUNGE ($1,229)
2nd place bartender: JEFF ELLIS, R PLACE BAR AND GRILL ($938)
3rd place bartender: MENDI NORRIS, VIBE ($885)
Way to go, everyone!
Special thanks to the following sponsors for their generous donations for this fundraiser: Stoli, Seattle Gay News, American Airlines, Kimpton Hotel (Hotel Allegro, Chicago), and ACME Barbershop.
