Olympia "expects 10,000" for Pride
Olympia "expects 10,000" for Pride
Olympia's 2008 Capital City Pride parade and festival will be the city's largest-ever, according to Pride Co-Chairs who said they expect up to10,000 people to come to Washington's capital city for Pride weekend June 21 and 22. The parade and festival takes place Sunday June 22.

"We're very fortunate again this year," says Tony Sermonti, Olympia Pride co-chair. "We have a whole new level of sponsors, entertainers from around the country and an expanded parade route. It's really exciting for our capital city. We deserve this," he said, noting that the festival is the day after the It's About Life Expo concludes, which he hopes will draw additional people to Olympia.

Olympia's Pride parade begins at noon on Sunday the 22, leaving from the capitol building and traveling north on Capital Way through downtown Olympia. State Senator Joe McDermott of Seattle will serve as the 2008 Grand Marshal. The parade ends at historic Sylvester Park, where the day-long festival takes place. Sermonti says there is still space available for entries in the pride parade and registration forms and more information is available at www.capitalcitypride.net.

Besides food and booths, festival entertainers this year feature headliners top-10 LOGO/MTV artist Brian Kent from New York City and hip-hop artist Katastrophe from San Francisco. Other entertainers include Tucson singer/songwriter Courtney Robbins and the Kim Archer Band from Tacoma.

"Our state's capital city deserves a really inclusive Pride celebration based on community - that's what makes us so unique," Sermonti said.

Special hotel rates and the weekend's full schedule is available at www.capitalcitypride.net.
