CARE TO SHOP FOOD DRIVE
Chicken Soup Brigade, Lifelong AIDS Alliance's food program, sponsors an on-going food drive program to provide bags of groceries to people living with HIV/AIDS in Seattle/King County. "Care to Shop" is held between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the following stores:
The first Saturday of the month at QFC, 416 15th Ave. E., Seattle; the second Saturday of the month at QFC, 417 Broadway E. (Broadway Market), Seattle; and the third Saturday of the month at Thriftway, 9740 S.W. Bank Rd., Vashon Island.
They particularly need: cereal, canned tuna, canned meals (soup, stew, etc.), juice, canned beans, peanut butter, jam/jelly, canned fruits and vegetables, macaroni and cheese, dry pasta, canned or jarred spaghetti sauce. Store gift cards and cash donations are also always appreciated. You can also help by organizing your own food drive at an office gathering or holiday party. For more information, call 206-328-8979.

PRESENTS CIRQUE DU SLAQUE

Captain Smartypants gives the circus a run for its money in their irreverent new show, Cirque du Slaque. a unique taste of homo-comedy at its talented and flagitious best; these nine funny guys take on bearded ladies, criminal magicians, bad candy, politics and more in this pastiche of songs, sketches and video that features at least one clown-related death. Cirque du Slaque is a raucous and sometimes bawdy send-up of circus life (in a sort of eerie and definitely offbeat way). This journey, running the gamut from ridiculous to sublime, will both amaze and frighten. The dark and disturbing underbelly of circus life is revealed through a musical story peppered with interesting and dangerous characters. On Sunday, June 15, Leather Daddy Mark and Daddy's boy Ron will host the SML's 14th annual Father's Day chili feed, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m, at The Cuff Complex, 1533 13th Ave. at E. Pine St. The menu will include all-you-can-eat chili (meat or vegetarian) with the trimmings for $5, hot dogs for $2, chili dogs and beef burgers for $3. All proceeds will go to support Rise 'n Shine, SML's benefit charity for 2008. SML invites everyone to come for some great food, friends, and fun on Father's Day.

On Tuesday, June 17, from 5:30 p.m to 7 p.m., at St Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, 1245 10th Ave. E., nationally recognized civil rights leader Evan Wolfson will give a free public talk on how recent events will affect the drive for marriage equality in Washington. The event is presented by Equal Rights Washington. CAUCUS COMMUNITY MEETING
On Thursday, June 19, the Healthy Washington Coalition invites the community to discuss the issues most important and pressing to them in reforming Washington's health care system. This meeting is an opportunity for community discussion on the challenges we are currently facing in health care and how we can start to achieve reform. The town hall meeting to discuss what values we want in Washington's health care system will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at University Christian Church, 4731 15th Ave. N.E. Over the next four months the Healthy Washington Coalition will be hearing from communities on what they want from healthcare reform at town hall meetings in seven locations across the state. The Border Riders Motorcycle Club is going to Fort Stevens State Park, Warrenton, OR, for its next run. The run lasts from Friday, June 20, through Sunday, June 22. Guests will pay $15 for one night of camping, or $25 for two nights. All meal costs will be extra. In Washington state, more than 820 people die by suicide each year, four times as many who die by homicide. It is the second leading cause of death across the state for those between 15 and 34 years old. Nationally suicide is a serious health problem that claims a life every 16 minutes.
This June, residents from throughout the Pacific Northwest and around the country will participate in the "Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk" in Seattle. The up to 20-mile overnight journey will begin at sundown on Saturday, June 21 and end at sunrise on June 22, 2008. proceeds will support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, funding vital research, suicide prevention and awareness programs and support for survivors of suicide loss both locally and nationally.
