| PUSH magazine ends publication |
by Rajkhet Dirzhud-Rashid -
SGN A&E Writer
I have to confess that part of the reason I was at the goodbye party for PUSH Magazine, the gender/feminist/Queer publication that started its run in 1999, was the fact that I'd heard they were having cake. But the truest reason I was there was to say goodbye to not only the 'zine itself, but to the all-to-familiar reality that Seattle is losing more of its arts and poetry venues, and with them, small publications like PUSH.
On hand for the party were founding PUSH members and some of the writers from past issues, including the well-remembered "Food Issue." There was also a call to read haiku that reflected those who were involved with, or who were loyal readers of PUSH, and how they felt about the 'zine. Most memorable was the one writer who wrote a long poem about being allergic to her favorite comfort food: pickles. PUSH is also selling a computer on Craigslist to pay off old bills, so check it out. Viva to one of Seattle's premiere gender/Queer publications, and this writer hopes that someone will come to take up the torch left by this delightfully rowdy and progressive bunch of women.
